    I would try Mothballs..
I am not fast enough to catch the moth to get the balls.

Tonyb, that reminds me of a song I heard on tosh.o. called let me smell your di#@ you can fill in the last 2 letters lol. Utube it lol.

I am taking it apart this weekend and putting it in the bag. We shall see.

The ozone machine also seems like a good idea if I see one used.

Why don't you take it apart clean it all with electronic cleaner then gently air dry with a air gun then leave it apart for a day or two to make sure it is completely dry. Gently clean the laser with a q-tip and alcohol before you reassemble.

Anything natural that can soak up the smell will help.

Ern, many household air cleaners use ozone generators in them. Remember the old Sharper Image ones ? Oreck has one too and probably pretty cheap now on craigslist for used. However I don't know about long term effectiveness of ozone on odors.

How bad can this puppy smell btw ? Really that bad ?

I put the box outside in the sun and sprayed it with fabreze along with the white gloves, and manual. (I asume the gloves are for tube handling? )

The unit I took the cover off and its in a bag with Bounce with avec con fabreze spring& renewal sent. Cover is in one bag and the unit is in a seperate bag.

I looked for mold and even on the manual and white gloves I did not see any, so they just must have had it in a musty area.

If I do wind up going the coffee ground route, I will definately need a bigger bag.

The smell isnt terribe, just you know some smells people are more sensitive to then others.Im sure the seller doesnt even realize it has an odor. Its not stinking up the room, I only smell it if im close to it.

Try putting it in a closet with an ozone generation machine.

It's what they use to get rid of , you know, "that dead body smell" out of car trunks, motel rooms etc.
You can borrow mine if you want. It's about the size of a lunchbox.

I bought it used cheap and use it all the time.

Anyone else concerned about this?

Try putting it in a closet with an ozone generation machine.

I have one and it is incredible in removing any kind of organic smell such as cigarette smoke, mildew, musty basements, barf, pet urine or worse.

It's what they use to get rid of , you know, "that dead body smell" out of car trunks, motel rooms etc.

While all true... it is VERY important to point out that no pets or living things (including yourself) should be in a room while this is running. Our company uses these machines when all else fails to rid a place of a certain smell - most notably that of curry, heavy smoke saturation or even dead bodies. Being in the same room as them as they do their thing is not a wise decision.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I dunno guys, all this talk about getting rid of smells then the wife comes home and adds some newer ones with scented candles, perfumes, hair spray....burnt dinner. Personally I think you guys are fighting an uphill battle.

Wouldn't mind adding a few smells myself. Like a bakery first thing in the morning or a corner deli. I'd probably weigh in at 300 lbs if that was the case.

I'm so tired of hearing Lynyrd Skynyrd every time I see this thread. Figure it out already!

Nice Skynyrd reference! The smell is gone. Bounce with Fabreze in a bag worked well. The tube SACD player now is smell free LOl. So I can finally change cd's tracks to Simple Man or Tuesday's Gone.

Tonyb, if the unit smelled like Schmaltz Deli that is over here, I would be right there with you back up at 300+ LOL. Hair Spray? You always try to throw in a reference to that move whenever you can
