center for s4's and tweeter questions
I am trying to choose a matching front center for my S4's. I will have S4's for fronts, surrounds, and the rear center. The S4 uses an SL5000 tweeter, and I think that that is a polymer dome tweeter, not a silk, but if anyone knows differently, I would sure like to find out!
I'm looking at the CS245 (not the CS245i) but I don't know which tweeter it uses. Is it the SL5000? The CS250s uses an SL5001, but Polk doesn't list the CS245 parts on their parts pages.
So, I'm trying to decide between the CS245, which I would buy used, or the new CS30i, with the newer silk/polymer tweeter and db woofers.
Oh yeah, the bass for all six speakers will be provided by my PSW1200 (slight mismatch, eh?)
Thanks

Welcome to club polk,
I cant help you with matching the tweeters but others here can. I just want to clear something up, did you mean the CSi3 or the discontinued CSi30. Because I am not familiar with the CS30i.Graham -
I mean the CSi30, the one that Crutchfield has on sale for $150. I figure it is an updated CS245.
-
I had the CSi30 w/ my s4's for quite a while. They matched up well.

I don't doubt that the CSi30 would be a good match. I'm just wondering if the CS145 uses the exact same tweeter as the S4. I'm pretty close to buying the CSi30 from Crutchfield, but I may have an opportunity to buy the CS145 used for about half the price, and the tweeter match could make the decision.

have u thought about using an s4 for your center. i have 2 i'd sell to ya cheap. and they're magnetically shielded.Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250

Yeah, I've thought about it. My S4's are not shielded (they make the screen go funky in proximity); are yours? I think that an upside-down S4 would make a great center channel, except for the lack of shielding.
Email me at soiset@myrealbox.com and tell me what cheap is, and maybe we'll be dealin'. -
I put magnets on 'em so they're shielded. They worked great!Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250

So you put ferrite bucking manets on both the tweeter and woofer? How effectively did that cancel the magnets' influence on a crt? Can you tell a difference in the sound characteristics of the shielded speakers? Your speakers look nice, by the way. Have you had to replace the MW7000's or the SL5000's yet?

I did put the buckets on both tweeter and woofer. Eliminated picture distortion completely. I didn't recognize any sound difference. I didn't do any tweeter changing. Its all original.Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250

When you say "buckets" are you talking about ferrous cups over the drivers? Did you do this in addition to adding the bucking magnets?

all right, i'm starting to get confused. I put shielding magnets for the tweeter and woofer. I got them from polk parts. I put them on using an epoxy.Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250

Sorry about the confusion. I found the magnets listed in the polk parts catalog that you must have put on them. How much would you like for the speakers?

Yo! (Waving hands over head) Can't you see me up here?
I'm in Pullman, Washington. 99163. Shipping should be about $16 to me. You know, I just won two other pairs of S4's on ebay to make 6 that I have total already. Paid 51 for the first, 52 for the second, and I figure 50 for your pair ought to be about right. So, it's a deal.
Now, my partner is going to shoot me in the head for buying yet another pair of speakers, so don't tell her. Do you think four pairs of S4's is enough? -
Sweet. My wife will be glad I get these out of the closet. Do you know anyone in Grandview? I'll be up there for XMas. I don't have original box. Any tips on packaging? Give me an email

You interested in sanus stands? I got a pair of those two I'm not using. There in my system showcase. Check 'em out.Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250

Well, I've got a friend in Richland, about 30 miles east of Grandview. He comes this way enough. Are those Sanus stands MDF or steel? How tall are they, and how much would you want for them?
-
They're MDF and 24". Check em out here:

I'm not sure what is a fair price. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them. I'd say 9 out of 10 in rating. I think I paid a little over $50 for 'em. What do you think, about $35?Home Speakers polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired), CSi30, FX3000i, PSW250
