Hey man, just wondering if you went to see Cradle of Filth. I remember you saying that you were going. I saw them today and it was a kick **** show. Hyper crowd and loud as hell! My ears are still ringing. It was their last show for this tour. 105th according to Dani when he spoke. They played a lot of great songs, new and old. I thought they wouldn't play "A Gothic Romance", but they did. That was a nice treat. It's too bad they didn't play "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh":(.

It's nice to finally see Moonspell play live. I gave up on them for a while but the new stuff they played sounded pretty good. I might check out their new CD.

Praetoria(sp?) is a Canadian band, first one to open up. They were kinda lame.

Organ, glad to hear you caught the show. Unfortunatly I missed mine. It was on a big fat Wednesday and I had to work the next morning at 4am. Moonspell and Type O Negitive opened. My friends gave me alot of crap for not going.
But I have seen them earlier this year at Ozzfest and the year before in LA with NILE opening.
This is just the begining of black metal in america. I have directtv with MTV2 (headbangers ball) and Fuse (Uranium). Last HB was Dimmu Borgir just full on interview and hanging on the set talking up the American tour with Nevermore. INsane.........

Sorry to hear that man. Really sucks when you miss a show because of work:(.

Type O Negative wasn't there for the Toronto show. I don't listen to them so it wasn't that big of a deal for me. But I'm sure I would've enjoyed them more than Praetoria.

Black metal is getting big here. I don't think it will rule in North America like it does in Europe though. But it's nice to hear that Dimmu was on TV. Is it me or is Dimmu Borgir becoming more popular than Cradle?

Cradle Of Filth has helped opened the door now for black metal in the USA. And thier are many other bands that overshadow Cradle. The new DM video makes Cradle video's look outright childish. But Dani has the "POP" icon personality thats helped them get as far as the American Ozzfest tour. This great music will never be that large in the US. But I almost like it that way. Keeps it out of our shallow POP culture. US black metal is growing but many overseas metal has alot of culture and folk lore that gives there bands some substanance..... Norway Sweden ect.

LOL..Now that I think about it, Cradle is like the Britney Spears of black metal:D. My biggest beef with Cradle is the production on their newer releases. It just doesn't sound as heavy as say "Vempire", "Dusk and Her Empbrace", "Cruelty and the Beast". TPoEMF had horrible production but it had atmosphere. The production in "Midian" is awesome when you listen to it loud. I know "Damnation and a Day" has the right sound for audiophiles but it dosn't sound raw and evil like their earlier releases. Their guitar distortion is too "nice". But when they performed "The Promise of Fever" I was shocked. It was so f$cking heavy that I was head banging like a madman and it was just their first song. Somehow I ended up in the outer shell of the mosh pit and it was insane. You can really f#cked up in there. It would be awesome if they record their next album in Abyss Studio. Immortal and Dark Funeral always record there and it sounds great.

I'll have to get the Dimmu DVD and check out this video you're talking about. So this is crazier than than Cradle's "From the Cradle to Enslave" video? That's my favorte. Their videos for "Born in a Burial Gown", "Scorched Earth Erotica" and "Babylon A.D." sucked.

US/Canadian black metal are alright. A lot of them sound like old school death metal. But there's something special about the Europeans when it comes to extreme metal. I like the way they mix it with classical and folk which I haven't heard with North American bands. They have great mood and atmosphere. Makes me feel like I'm in the deep forests of Carpathia or Norway:).

WOW!!! It is amazing how we share many of the same views. Good to here ya getting into the "mosh" pits. I was blasting the hell out of Midian one day on some large 3 ways speakers explaining to a friend all the layers in the sound only to be expereinced at the loud volumes.
The Dimmu video was not all bloody and groutesq. It was really well produced with cool effects that appeared to be very expensive.
American death metal is not as nearly inventive.

Nice to have someone to chat with about black metal on here.

Hey did ya check out Dez's (aka lead for Coal Chamber) new CD
    DevilDriver? Freaking awesome!!!!!!!
    Nice and fast black...... Killer!!!!!!!

Yeah, Midian probably has the most layering especially "Amor E Morte". Is your friend still alright? I know that if I pump up Midian with a friend over, I'd start going crazy and try to start a little pit with him LOL. Man that CD has some serious bass with the synth organ. I'm sure it sounds awesome with your PSW1200.

I didn't know Dez made his own CD. I used to listen to Coal Chamber(just the first album). But after I found black metal, I stopped listening to them. I'll have to check out the CD. Is Devil Driver the name of the album or his band?

Have you heard Carpathian Forest? They are considered as elitest in black metal. Not in a Darkthrone kind of way. They're very heavy and raw with beats that really make you head bang. If you want to check them out, try their "We're Going to Hell for This-Over a Decade of Perversions". New materials + covers + live songs. 18 tracks total. Killer necro music.

Are you going to see the "Metal Gods 2004 Tour" this spring? I went last year and it was a blast. Pain Museum, Amon Amarth, Carnal Forge, Primal Fear, Immortal and Halford. I'm going to the next one for sure. I'll let you know once they announce tour dates.

Devil Driver is the name of the band.
    Devil Driver

Carpathian Forest - will check it out.
I like my vocals black and as much rythem that can be alowed in black metal. Sort of like Six Feet Under with the feel of relentless force of Decide.
Will look into MGT this year. Thanks
This is the site to one of my favorite labels - check it out....

    Napalm Records
