hi...
does anyone else use one of these?
i picked one up yesterday, hooked it up to a yamaha MX1000U power amp/onkyo P3060R pre running polk audio monitor 10's and 7's...
my turntable is a low end sony...
the sound with the tube pre added was low end mud, no mids or high end what so ever...
i run all tone controls on the onkyo flat, and had to crank the treb's, cut the lows to get anything close to a decent sound....
i tried replacing the JJ 12AX7 tube with a JJ 12AU7 thinking i might gain some head room and clean things up a bit...
didnt work...
i did a search looking for trouble shooting ideas, found several threads on other forums about too much high end, and loss of low, not my issues at all....
the LP's i was testing with was made in japan by deep purple, and lateralus by tool, a lp that usually fills my room with a sound that makes me think it's three deminsional...
not what i was getting yesterday....
i'm using monster cables to connect it to my pre...
rumble switch is engaged, and i am not cranking the output on the bellari....
it's probably at 7:00....
i've got a couple of other 12AX7's i can try....
or wonder if a higher quality turntable is needed...
ideas?
thanks for your time...

Is the Bellari plugged into the phono input on your preamp? If so, use the AUX or other input.

The phono input on your Onkyo P3060R isn't just a convenience for switching between sources. Unlike CDs or tapes LPs are recorded with what is known as the RIAA curve. It decreases the bass reesponse to keep the needle from jumping out of the groove and also boosts the treble response. A phono preamp like the Bellari or the built-in phono section in your P3060R reverses this, boosting the bass response and diminishing the high end. By plugging the Bellari phono preamp into the phono input you were doubling that correction.
