These do NOT come up often so if you are looking for a killer pre for a 2-channel system? RLP's are even 100X more rare. Good luck even finding an ELP. None of them come up for sale often.

Tom is right, I was looking for a used Dodd for a long time, only rarely do used ones come up and then they'd be gone in a very short time. I've never seen an RLP for sale. When I heard about Gary's medical problems I decided to try to help him out as much as I could, and I bit the bullet and ordered a battery preamp and an external phono stage from him directly. They are hand made, and he's been great to deal with so far. I should be getting the new gear soon. Another polkie just told me he had also ordered a new battery preamp from Gary around the same time I did, and received it a couple days ago.

IIRC one of our members has an RLP,, Tom has my MLP(his now),, and that is one of three items I regret selling.

Oh, snap! Do you know which member has the RLP? *drools*

IIRC, Gary told me that there were only 74 MLP's ever produced and only one with a remote. The RLP's only had 20 or so made. Man, would I love to get my grubby little hands on an RLP!....or at the very least, my ears on one.

Whoops! I forgot to add, only one with a remote that had the wood faceplate and knobs. That's the one I'm listening too right now. If anybody is interested in the one linked on the 'gone, I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. It's just like mine, only a different wood and faceplate.

George, did you buy the MLP I had? Mine had a remote IIRC.

    EDIT:

My bad, it was Ricardo but it did have a remote.

I forget who I heard this from but the story goes like this...

Ted wanted to purchase an MLP but at the time, it wasn't offered with a remote. Every time Ted would call Gary, he would ask him if he could add a remote. Gary would always answer with "no". Ted called Gary so many times about the remote and hounded him so much about it [playfully] over the course of a couple of months that Gary finally threw up his hands and said, "If I build you one with a remote, will you shut up?"

Now I don't know the validity of the information I just provided, it was just what was passed on down to me. It does lead me to believe that Ted was the original owner. George was the second and I am the third. AFAIK.

Thanks guys. I look forward to hearing it. I have been struggling with preamps for a while now, as Tony mentioned. Hopefully this one fits. I have even shot down a Simaudio Moon P-7 recently.

When you find the synergy with your amp/system, you might wanna' consider some tele smooth plates in that Dodd.

I am giving each preamp that comes in a week to wow me, and given that my monoblocks are going nowhere any time soon, I must say that finding that synergy has been a major challenge. So far, and by far, the best sound has come from my Pioneer Elite SC 37 working as a pre. It seems sacrilegious to say this, but having room correction capabilities such as MCAAC make a huge difference.

I may also be chasing down this rabbit hole blindfolded, as my speakers have not ben fully upgraded yet and my room is still not where it should be....
