Building a new fence!

Just wanted to post a picture of my fence in progress; I'll post follow-up pictures as well. I've decided to fence the slope line between our grass, and back half of our property which is forested with a creek running through it. It will only be three feet tall as to not obscure the view and break up the back yard too much, and keep the dog, kids, toys on the grass. I decided to go with a 4x4 treated post, with 2x4 treated top and box cross-beams, and I'll stretch chain-link fabric across that frame. I think it will do it's job, not disrupt the view too much, and cost me about $500 total for the 200ft of fence line. I also rented an auger for the first time to sink all the fence posts which was an awesomely manly experience...

Sounds like you saved yourself a ton of money. I've been getting quotes of 7-8k for 300ft of privacy fence in MD. Looks pretty good, update when you're done.Polk Fronts: RTi A7's

It will save a ton of money, but comes at the cost of digging rocks out for a day; which thankfully is behind me. The most expensive parts are the treated 2x4s and chain link fabric, but still cheap compared to having someone else do it.WastelandWand'r wrote: »I do not miss Blackberry brambles in the least.
Ya, they are not fun, but the fence should help as I can just trim anything that comes over/through the fence. My neighbor is also talking about renting some goats for a few days of clean-up, so I may have to go in with him on it just to knock them back a bit. -

Neighbor had a goat. 'Rosebud'. I was 5'1" and 95 pounds at the time, and the damn thing took great pleasure in chasing me through the fields whenever I tried to cut through. Damn thing(s).
They do eat blackberries, so I guess not all bad.

That is my 40lbs helper, but she doesn't do much except sniff around and chew bones. Got rid of the big brush piles on the right of the picture last night, and I hope to hang the hardware and fill in the top of the post holes this weekend.

Id like to see your fence once it gets done..we just had a young guy down 3 good size trees in our back yard that werent doing so good. We gave him the wood for WOODSTOVE WOOD needless to say i have 2 good size piles of brush to move to back property..we hope for fence to happen next year/summer..its a driveway this year. It never ends & can be very expensive..i plan on putting in my post also.. I see up in the picture you have some and working it down the grade ? That looks very nice/nice color too----randy..

Thought I'd share my experience with fence building... Basically, DO NOT buy the pre-built sections of privacy fence from Lowes or Home Depot or wherever. They are crap. I built a fence on one side of my back yard using them, and while it seemed like a good idea at the time, the supports they use for them are 1x2, and they are starting to sag. Some have sagged enough to rip them off the screws in places. They might be a decent product if they just used a better support, but as they are now they look horrible. Eventually I will rip them out and rebuild the fence myself.

The pictures make it look TALLER than 3 ft high----especially the upside down ones. Lol. looks great..

I am pricing out fence right now. I have about 400 feet I want to replace. It was interesting to hear the vinyl fence is just about the same price as a cedar wood fence. I was expecting the vinyl to be at least 50% higher, but the quotes I got so far are almost identical price as wood. Still waiting for more quotes and an official survey of the land before I bite.

Finished the fence on Saturday, and I'm really happy about how it turned out. I ended up using black welded field wire instead of chainlink, and the results were very low profile when coupled with black hardware. The fence isn't quite straight, but it follows the land, and I wasn't about to spend a month and a few thousand dollars just the have a perfectly straight fence when looking at it from profile. I'll snap a picture of the gate next time I'm out back.
Sorry about the lense flair in the picture...

Looks great, reminds me of the fence at my local Zoo.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I do have quite a few animals to keep in...
I have quite a few to keep out. Our yards are similar, only I have about 80 ft. before the woods start. I don't mind the deer, possums, fox, raccoons....it's the darn coyotes I wouldn't mind getting rid of. My problem is about 100 feet into the woods is a creek so every animal has a water source and food source which means at any given time who knows what comes trampling around. I swear at night in the summer, sounds come out of those woods that you'd only hear at the zoo.

Nice choice. My neighbor did a full 6' high version of that since they wanted a view of the boysenberry field behind them. As long as the dog doesn't jump it you're all set.
I've got 70ft or so with another neighbor that is getting replaced this summer. Going to have their college student son do it as he'll need a summer job. That should run about $600 for my half. Two springs ago I dropped $2500 on 125 feet along the boysenberry field. Nothing worse than not having a neighbor to share in the cost!Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))
