hello all,
Been a really long time since i have been on here but i have still been enjoying my Polk Audio speakers ! unfortunately i just turned on the system and was watching a movie and the sub was making a weird sound so i unplugged it checked all the connections they were all good. I plugged it back in it made some weird sounds for a few seconds and started to smoke out the port tube ! so i unplugged it real quick again checked everything out and made sure it wasnt on fire and that everything was ok. Now when i plug it in it does not work at all. Im thinking the amp just went out on it, but i am not sure. anyone ever experience this or have any idea what i need to do to solve the issue? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kevin
correction it is a psw202 sorry.

Smoke coming out electronics or speakers is never good. Pull the amp and look at it.

yeah i have never had electronics start smoking and had it become a positive experience lol. but i did pull out the amp and nothing looks to be bad it is all in good shape and i could not locate anywhere that had appeared to burn but i am not an expert in amplifiers by any means and would not know what to look for if there was a problem. but it is not working at all now.

Once the magic smoke escapes - then there are problems.....

It's cooked! Get yourself a new sub. Go to the Polk store on Ebay. They've got some great deals, free shipping and a full warranty. I would go for the PSW125. Good luck!

I'm wondering if it's the amp or the coil ? If you were able to produce smoke, there was something cooking if even for only a little bit. Burnt electronics/electrical ranks right up there with burnt mashed potatoes; can't miss it. A sniff test should pinpoint it.

Mr. Carl's suggestion is excellent. Newegg also has some nice choices.
The PSW505 is on sale ("while supplies last") for $199. Shipping isn't free, though. It's $1.99, 3-day business.
The PSW110 is on sale for $149.99, free shipping.

Don't know what your budget is, or your listening environment, but Polk Ebay or Newegg should get you in the ballpark.
