I will start a new job in lower Manhattan on April 29. I am looking to rent a room near a train station for easy commute.
Does any NJ polkie has or know someone that might have an extra room for rent?

Sorry, no room for rent but if you are in the area look at the Pavanoia/Newport/Hoboken/Grove St/Exchange Place area, lots of apartment complex around. If you do not mind walking 10 minutes or so look for places around Hamilton Park area near Pavonia/Newport. I work in Hoboken, will be on a lookout for rooms for rent. All of the areas mentioned have PATH stations within walking distance which get you into WTC PATH station in 10 to 15 minutes. Rent is likely to be on the high side though.

Lived for 5+ yrs near Exchange place, but now my commute is about 1hr 40minutes to Hoboken from Princeton, NJ area.

    Map of PATH system

If you do not mind a bit longer commute look for towns served by NJ Transit.

Best of luck and welcome to the area.

Thanks for the info. I am going to check out several rooms near JSQ tomorrow. If I can't find one there, I will go to Harrison.

Yeah, forgot about Journal Square. Do not know anything about Harrison.

It is not a temp job, but they agreed to transfer me a year later to another office in Chicago. I work here by myself while the family is in NE. I travel home about one a month, and sometimes I work from home for up to two weeks. Because of traveling and be here by myself, it is a good idea to have someone to watch my stuff or if there is a medical emergency.
I put a deposit down for a room yesterday. It is only 6 minutes walk to the JSQ station. That is good, but it will cost $800 plus 1/3 utilities since I am sharing the apartment with two other guys.
