Headphone amps w digital volume control + ASIO or WASAPI

So question for everyone: Can you use a headphone amp like the dragonfly, explorer, headstreamer, ect with ASIO or WASAPI drivers? IIRC those drivers lock the volume @ 100%.

With the dragon fly, I think it has a variable output mode.

But I think thats so it can work as a pre-amp. Not sure that it would work with a set of headphones connected into it that way.
