Polk RT3 tweeter magnet fell off!! Advice appreciated..

I got a pair of Polk RT3s off of Craigslist for dirt cheap. They were in great physical condition, the woofers look new as well. However when I plugged them in, one speaker was significantly lacking in treble response. I unscrewed the tweeter plate, only to find that the tweeter magnet was missing!!! It turned out that it fell off and was attached to the woofer magnet. I placed the magnet back on the front plate and centred it as best as I can. It is now staying on just by the magnetic force which is really strong (I don't know how it fell off in the first place).
With the tweeter put back, that speaker now has some treble output, however the highs are still significantly muffled compared to the other speaker, resulting in very unblanaced sound. I switched the two tweeters around and the sound defect transferred to the other speaker, which means it is for sure the tweeter.
Does anyone know if I did something wrong in reattaching the balanced dome tweeter? I didn't use any adhesive to glue it back on, would that make a difference? I really wanna bring the old girl back to life. Thanks for advance for any insight.

Thanks for the reply. A pair of these new tweeters will cost $40+shipping. Considering refurbed Monitor 30 are $89.00 a pair, would it be worth it to restore the RT3 over getting something new? How do they compare to the Monitor 30? -
Can't help you on the sound of either, sorry.Political Correctness'.........defined

The RT3 is a better speaker.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I can't speak for the RT3 but I've owned the RT5's and the Monitor 30's just don't compare. Fix the tweeter and possibly upgrade the crossovers. Your ears will thank you.Display: Sony 42" LCD

Thank you guys for your insights. I shall order the new tweeters. As for upgrading the crossover, I'm afraid that is beyond my knowledge at the moment. Perhaps a future project after I complete my system. I might be coming to a pair of Monitor 5s soon, and this is all after getting a new set of Energy Take Classic not 2 weeks ago. This whole audio thing is dangerously addictive.

Same deal when I got my S8's. A plastic locking tab broke off the tweeter. I was able to glue it and it seemed to sound ok. Later I picked up a pair of new tweeters off EB or about $40. I swapped both tweeters and sold the one good tweeter that I removed.Stan

RT3's are great speakers and, IMO, worth the cost of the repair.2.1: PC>Schiit Gungnir MB>Schiit Freya Noval>NAD C-270>Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1, HSU STF-2 5.1: HDMI Bitstream>Denon AVR-1910>polkaudio RTE55, CS350-LS, RT3, HSU STF-2, Visio M55-F0
