I want to thank all here. I received the 5jr speakers i purchased after feedback and they are a perfect vintage match up and sound fantastic in the small spare room there in..after trying 3 others that didnt do it for me. These blew them away by far. Thanks-- RandyAttachment not found.Attachment not found.

Attachment not found.Im going bigger for the 820
the room isnt all that big and the 620 is just stereo-easy listening
the 820 is the main rig with turntable and tape player. Im in process of hunting for bigger polks for that stereo. Using klipsch now, but i want polks for that as well
my main focus right this min is a turntable im eyeing and i need to stay focused----the jr's sound much better than the little advent v201's or the T15's
so i picked up a nice little pioneer last night for 40.00 cheap dollars for the office rig....100.00 for the jr's didnt break me and i think theyll do for the little 620--- Thanks
OH and on thursday im looking into a BIGGER POSSIBLY YAMMY---i cant tell what it is. But i know its not the CR1000 :(

It does look like a CR-1020; good eye!

(that's a CR-1020 on the bottom of the short stack in the photo)

I am thinking the Polks are Monitor 7B based on the "silver coil" tweeter. Have you seen this thread?

Yes i hear you there..... ? What is the difference between a monitor 7 & 7b or are they the same? I poked around but didnt really find a accurate answer. I also utube them
im new to these smaller polks. Ive had rta15tl's and other ones so bare with me. I started out with sda speakers then downsized house size to be closer to wifes work..

Practically speaking the difference is in the tweeters. I prefer the original silk dome Peerless tweeter used in the 7 and 7A to the "silver coil" dome in the 7B - but I am something of a Luddite anyway. Actually I have a pair of Monitor 5 family members (not exactly sure which version they are, in fact) with the latter tweeters - and they're just fine.

The cabinets and covers looked pretty good on the ones i have coming. Is that a fair price? It was stated it was missing one of the grill plastic/knobs and i may have some in the spare parts bins i have. Otherwise they looked pretty good to me. Thanks for all the feedback/info. Big help

Nice Pioneer Flouroscan! Which model is it?

I have the TOTL SX-3900 which is a little Beastie and very nice. I have a pair of Original Large Advents hooked to it (I know mhardy is not a fan of those but they do OK on the big boy).

As you can see in the signature below, I have a set of Monitor 10As with the peerless tweeters Mark mentioned as well as the 5As (also peerless). So perhaps at some future point since we're not that far from each other, I can tote a set to your abode for a demo--give you a chance to hear a peerless in action--probably after the semester ends, though!).

The CR-1020 Yamaha is a very very nice piece. I'd be pretty happy with one of those.

    Enjoy!

You Maineiacs will have to make the junket over to NH one weekend - I do have an ugly but functional pair of 10s and a pair of 9As :-) to audition - and 7As and 5s of some sort. No 12s though (I was never all that impressed by the original Monitor 12s, FWIW). I don't have my LF-14 subwoofer any more, either - I donated it back to Polk via Dorokusai a few years back.

oh - and then we could spend a little quality time listening to the real hi-fi in the house :-)

    No, they're real speakers ;-)

They are Altec 604E Duplex (i.e., coaxial) studio monitors (with Doug Sax' MasteringLabs crossovers) in "bespoke" 9ft^3 cabinets built by my friend and cabinetmaker Mike Berg.

They're powered by a single-ended 2A3 amplifier (3.5 watts per channel) based on the JE Labs/Angela Labs "Simple 2A3" design.
