Hey all..
I was in my local sort of Pawn Shop and noticed one of these receivers for $49
Was wondering if that Old Pioneer is a Good model and worth it to polish up and play around with it I have some older speakers and another TT to hook up..
It kind of reminds me of my parents old Realistic receiver they had back in the early 80's growing up..

$49 is an OK price especially if local.
The 3600 was ~30wpc if I remember correctly and one of the Flouroscan models with the cool (to me anyway) level bars.
As long as everything works and you have a pair of speakers that are efficient with that amount of power, I would pick it up.
Bear in mind though that these show up at Goodwill and Salvation Army pretty regularly for <$25.

    Thanks ZLTFUL..
I'm sure if I offer him $30 or 40 they would take it, it's been there for a while..
I like the flouroscan light meters, I like those kinds of things as well..
I believe my old speakers are 6 ohm, do you think that will put to much string on it?
Oh one more thing, I've seen people talk about de-oxit, where can I buy this stuff?
I've never seen it up here..

Sort of past the prime years (IMO) - probably OK for 49 smackers if in good working & cosmetic condition.

EDIT: As for DeOxit - I buy from www.partsexpress.com but I do believe that Radio Shack stocks small containers at high prices. Also, I think some, perhaps most, music stores (dealing in e-lectric gee-tars and their electronics) stock it at more reasonable prices. Also, if you happen to have a local or regional electronics retailer (such as the You-Do-It Electronics in Needham, MA)... they should have it.

The CAIG line of products at PartsExpress:

    Thanks mhardy6647
I'll check into RadioShack although they have moved out of Canada, and a store called The Source replaced them almost the same type of business..
If its still there on the weekend I'll offer them $30 and see, lol

Find an online Canadian supplier for De-Oxit.
Rat Shack charges about double for half the size compared to Parts Express.

Pawn shops are always willing to negotiate prices a bit. Most people never haggle though.

FWIW, I have purchased from them (yes, in the US) and found them to be very good to deal with.

My friend growing up had one of these. As I recall it was a nice little receiver. I had a Technics SA-303 which had similar specs but seemed grainy in comparison to the Pioneer.

"Grainy" is an apt description of the sonics of the SA-303 and its progenitor, the SA-300... Mrs H had one of each (the 300 was stolen from her apt in her grad school days and replaced with the 303... which we still have in the attic, actually).

Strictly FWIW here's a gratuitous photo of the next model down from the 303 (i.e., the SA-202)... since I happened to have this handy :-)

Attachment not found.I picked up a pioneer sx3500 with box in very good condition Sunday within 20 miles of house. Brought them home hooked them to Polk t15's for the office. Listened to it for 1hour that night. 2 hours yesterday. Very nice little units. I think for the price you will enjoy it. And it seems those little pioneers are built pretty nice.....enjoy keep us updated how you make out....
