RT 5000 Price question

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion. On what I should ask for my RT 5000 speaker system (2 RT3000p /1 CS1000/ ans 2 FX1000. The system is in excellent shape. I am just looking to down size to some polk bookshelf speakers. If I recall the system was $5000 when I bought it new.

    There are sets on craigslist Boston, Grand Rapids, MI, Western Mass and ebay right now priced from $1650-$3500 and many have bought sets as low as $1000-$1200. IMO, $2000 for a mint fully working set seems to be inline.

    As an example, the set for $1650 on craigslist has bad amps on the RT3000's but includes a PSW1200 sub and the center and surrounds are like new condition and the original boxes are included.     I just bought that RT5000 yesterday minus the PSW1200 for $1100. The cabinets look awesome on all of them but the RT3000p amps supposedly have a "hum" (not a major issue for me). All 5 speakers come with the original boxes.

    This set will become my 2nd set to be used in my 10.2 system and my current 2nd set will become my backups because some of the cabinets have some scratch and dents but they work good.

    My 1st set I bought brand-new in 2002 and they are mint.

    A nice RT5000 system is worth $2000. They cost over $7000 new which would be over $10,000 in today's money.

    The trick is finding a nice set that has not been abused.

    I've seen some that look like they've been used for workbenches. All they are missing is a vise bolted to the end of them.

    Such a shame!

    I've seen some rough ones too!
    The missing vise bolted on to them sums it up nicely!!Lol. I'm glad you purchased another fine set! The "humming" of the amps is not a big deal, can be fixed.
    Pitty I only have one RT5000 set up, If I can locate one or three in the southeast US, I'll quickly snap them up!!
    If anyone out there is listening, I'll buy your RT5000 from you. Only catch, it has to be in the southeast. This also goes for a PSW1200 since some inept morons decided to throw the plate amp out of the truck will it was still moving and completely destoryed it. I'm trying to decide how to "mate" a dayton audio amp to the cabinet and still retain the front volume function.

    Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention everything that Gatecrasher said is absolutely true! If you can find a nice set for 1500-2000, get it! That's a good deal. I've put mine together piece by piece for $1275. That's for all seven speakers in 9.5 out of 10 condition. Only thing is, my center is Rosewood while everything else is Black. No problem for me, considering I paid $260 for the CS1000.
    Also WLDock, has been a TREMENDOUS help in locating the RT's across the country! Many thanks to him for his help!! That's very kind for nim to take time out of his everyday routine to help fellow addicts like us!

    I know I would if I hadn't just bought one yesterday.

    I try to limit myself to one RT5000 system purchase per week.

    Hi. Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like I am asking a litlle much. I am the guy in Grand Rapids MI. on Craigs List selling them for 3500.00. I will have to drop the price a bit I see . I appreciate the information about pricing these properly..

    5 pairs of RT55's and one pair was still new in the box.

    I use a setup for my living room only for music and Direct TV. I buy them as I find them.

    I think you mean "f/x1000" not f/x1000p don't you?

    I don't think Polk made a powered f/x1000.

    I don't have a problem taking them apart, but how do I know if the power caps are nfg?

    I found them out in Texas. He couldn't find the fx1000's. TOO BAD! I'm looking for a set now. I do have a set of fx500's to use for now.

    Picked up my RT's and the CS today. Boxes were still factory sealed! I'm hoping everything goes well and the caps are good. Anyone have any FX1000's for sale?
