SDA SRS 2nd gen Crossover Help/Tips

Hi Everyone
Very new to the site. I recently picked up a pair of SDA SRS 2nd gen enclosures( very lucky...they're in wonderful shape!). I've seen a lot of threads on xover upgrades on other vintage models, but haven't seen anything specific to this model. I've been to Vr3 's site but am confused on which of these gimpod xover upgrades applies: SDA 2BTL / SDA 1C / SDA SRS 1.2 / SDA SRS 1.2TL / SDA SRS 3.1TL as I don't know which applies to my model.
I'm also trying to confirm the use of the RDO-198s over the 194s - want to confirm that this is an approach that is a universal in the forum . Just looking for some tips. Any links or tips would be much appreciated. I'll post a pic of my crossover shortly. Thanks!

i'll chime in with what little I know. I think your speakers are the SDA/SRS and not called the 1.2 or 1.2TL
The tweeters are the 2000 models which require the RDO-194 replacement.
Someone will respond shortly and correct me if I'm wrong.

Looking for an amp as we speak Chas. I picked up an Onkyo TX-NR818 for the HT portion. Remodeling my basement and designing it around these babies. Believe it or not, I got these for free. The woman just wanted to get rid of them. She said her husband bought them close to 30 years ago and she's always hated them. Man did I get lucky. They're a bi*ch to move, but damn they just don't make them like this anymore.
As for the 194's..I see some of the guys going with a modified 198. Just wondering if that could apply to these as well ?? Modified in that there's a mod on the xover to accomodate the 198. -

Thanks! I know..can you believe it? She is getting ready to retire and had to consolidate space. I work with her. I asked her what she wanted for them (after she told me they were Polks...over 5ft tall). I couldn't get over there fast enough to get them. lol. I'm going to get these into mint shape. Little love and coin and they'll be singin. -
Those are the original SDA SRS's with the blade/blade SDA cable. You cannot use RD0198-1 tweeters, you cannot use Gimpod's boards and you must use a common ground amp.Political Correctness'.........defined

This is terrible news. I was hoping to upgrade my newly acquired SDA SRS's. Is there no hope?

You can still upgrade your crossovers using the stock boards, add Dynamat Extreme to the baskets, upgrade the binding posts, upgrade to the RD0194-1 tweeters, add spikes and maybe even acquire a set of Larry's rings.Political Correctness'.........defined

I wouldn't consider the 198 for the SRS an official mod, more of a guestimate or hack. Stick with the 194's.As for the 194's..I see some of the guys going with a modified 198. Hi F1- Thanks much.
I'm glad I can still upgrade my stock boards. Are there any projects on the forum that you saw specific to this model? I've seen your name all over the place on the forum (along with some others such as Schurkey), so your guidance and those of the other polk royalty is very much appreciated. On my way to work, so I can't scour the forum till later.
I'm guessing the Dynamat placement within the enclosure is specific..which means I can get them in through the driver holes (rolled up first?)
Binding posts- are those the spade clip connections?
Spikes?
Larry's Rings?

Dynamat the driver baskets and the PR baskets, not the cabinet dynamat has little effect on the cabinet. There are other better materials like Black Hole and some other similar products for the cabinet.
Binding posts are the threaded posts that your speaker wires connect to.
Spikes go on the bottom of the cabinet to help couple the cabinet to the floor. Can be found almost anywhere selling speaker components.
Larry's rings are made by Toolfan and are rings essentially the size of you speaker and PR gaskets that go behind the baffle. They have threaded inserts to mount the drivers/ passives with and give a much better mount and seal than the original screws/ fasteners. If you can not get these, hurricane nuts work well also.
Welcome to the forum. Congrats, I had to spend over a grand and drive a 10 hour round trip to get my SRS's. Enjoy the ride and don't forget proper crossover upgrades. Listen to the guys here on the forum and you can make some great improvements to those.If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Considering the "Price" that you had to pay for them you can do every modification and turn them into the speakers of your dreams for less than a newer set alone might end up costing.
And they look like they are in absolutely perfect condition. How are the grills? -

Interesting...do these improve sound or are they just a 'good to swap out' part?

I've seen posts on these, but never knew what they were. Sounds like they're harder to get now than they used to be. I like concept on these already.

Grills are in great shape. However, there is some fraying towards the bottom (grills only, no issues on the fabric on the speakers). I'll be looking into replacing the fabric with something newer. I'm committed to getting these to the best condition possible. Money is not an option. thanks man! -

I was looking at your crossover wires they look like they are not original. I am talking about the clear insulation wires. You are going to need to check your wiring on these. The clear coated wires soldered to the crossover board are original and are a dead give away that they are SDA SRS speakers. IMO, it would be best to replace them as that clear coated wire tends to oxidize over time.Political Correctness'.........defined

You know...I've been listening to these speakers for the last week and they're just wonderful. Yet the more I read, the more I hear how much the mods make a difference. I'm blown away that these beautiful works art can sound any better than they already do. I'm totally amped about upgrading these babies. Got some good updates from Vr3 today...may be dropping some coin soooon. -
