Replace inductors on Polk Monitor 7B?

Hello all,

I've been reading the posts here and in other places about inductors and have a few more questions - hope I'm not repeating something that's been stated somewhere else...

I have a pair of Polk Monitor 7Bs which I have disassembled. My plan is to rebuild the crossovers, install rings, put some acoustic foam on the interior, and re-veneer the cabinets in real wood veneer. Should be pretty nice in the end, if I ever get there.

I was planning on replacing the caps and resistors on the crossover, after my initial research had shown that it's OK to leave inductors alone. Now I'm learning more that at least for the low-pass, it's worth looking at a new inductor if you get the right spec.

My questions are as follows:

1. What is the consensus on replacing the Polk monitor inductor which is wound around the binding post cup? Were these quality inductors to begin with? has anyone made a change and noted an improvement?

2. Do I need to match the DCR value for this inductor when getting a new one? I can't find DCR specs for these original inductors anywhere on the internet. For the low-pass is it OK to go with the lowest DCR I can afford granted I keep mh same as stock? There are several large-gauge inductors on Parts Express that match mh ratings with various DCR readings.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

You need to know the exact DCR otherwise you can change the voicing. You can upgrade all of the inductors with great benefit.

There is a program you can purchase for $130 dollar or a meter for similar prices.

You can also send the inductors and or crossovers to me and I will measure anything you would like for free. Just pay shipping each direction.

Thanks for the information! I'll think about sending you the inductors - I'd likely just send along the entire crossover/mounting cup because I haven't taken anything apart.
