I'm in the market for a new projector. Currently have the Mitsubishi HC1500 (native 720p). This one is wearing out and it's time for a new one. Looking for one in the $1,000 price range. The new BenQ W1070 has my attention given its price point, high lumen rating, long lamp life and 1080p HD picture. 3D is a nice addition but I don't see myself using that feature much. Is there another projector I should consider in this price range that maybe doesn't have 3D but has a better picture quality? Lumen rating is important since this will be used in a family room with ambient lighting conditions.

At $1000 I would say Epson models, but if you can and want to only spend 1k, do the Benq. 3D is optional of course, you don't have to use it.

I was reading some reviews of the Epson 8350 and it seems they have had a series of early lamp burn-outs and noisy or faulty auto iris problems. My first PJ was an Epson and it was great. The reviews I'm seeing make me a bit nervous. Are there any Epson models in particular that have been solid HT performers? The 3020 seems to have some good reviews other than one person whining about a noisy rattling in the white balance auto adjust.

Epson 3020 if you want to not spend a lot, Epson 5020 if you have the money because its totally worth it. If u ever want to hit me up in Orange County your more than welcome to come check it out in person. I know best buy has them set up usually at the Magnolia centers. And because you live in CA you'll appreciate this info more. If you decide to buy a projector, get it online through Crutchfield.com, free shipping, no taxes (GREAT in ca) and they are a legit distributor, so you get the warranties that come with the projectors.

If you have any questions feel free to ask
