This is pretty interesting. I wonder if we will start seeing more files offered in DSD versus high-res once more DSD capable DACs are available.

Yeah, that is pretty cool. I was having an issue with my 103 recognizing some SACDs as CDs, Oppo gave me an updated Loader version of the firmware that solved that. Since I'm not having any problems right now, I've opted for not installing the Public Beta update that just was unveiled , I'll wait till it's official. Do you have one of the players mentioned and, if so, have you updated BF?

That is SACD, which uses DSD encoding. While not very common yet, DSD files are becoming available for people to play.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Again just a quick note to those thinking about installing the latest Beta firmware for their 103/105 Oppo, you cannot return to any previous version of fw if you are not happy with the Beta model as it stands. And there are a few people now having video freezing issues when running certain STBs through their Oppo that didn't have problems previously. For more check out the last 10 pages or so of the AVS Oppo 103 thread...

Anyone know if the Oppo is able to stream bluray and DVD rips from a hard drive or nas?Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Yes and no. The 103 could, but the new Beta firmware will prevent ripping anything commercial that has menus. That will be coming to all BD players I would think, this is big Hollywood's decision if you want to keep your license to play BD discs. I don't stream back ups, but I believe there may be a work around, here is a clip from the AVS forum on the Oppo 103 thread. I'd suggest you go to that site for more info, the folks there have a lot more experience than me in regards to this issue:
So for all you guys who require chapter navigation support, your only alternative is re-muxing to the Matroska (.MKV) container. An application going by the name of 'MakeMKV' provides a relatively easy method of file type conversion -
I actually don't have many dvd's, most are just regular dvd's in vob format. Any idea if those can be played? If not I can research on AVS.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Not sure on DVDs, but I'd guess if they're menued that would be a no. To be sure, check out the Oppo 103 thread on AVS. There's about 235 pages, the last 10 or so talk about the new Beta FW and its pluses and minuses.

Ok cool, thank you.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Did some reading on AVS. Seems like mkv works for bd and dvd, but my concern is that they'll end up removing it in some future firmware which would defeat my main motiviation for buying this thing. Ok, thanks for the help.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Again, don't pick too much on Oppo for this, it's the movie companies behind it. I expect this to cross over to other players as well when sold new or upgraded with new FW.
