Center channel for LSIM703
I have recently bought a pair of LSIM703's. Excellent speakers. My next upgrade is a new center channel. According to the Polk website, LSIM704c is the proper center channel. However, I can not find any good deals on that speaker but I can find good deals on the LSIM706c. Would I get proper timbre matching with the 706 or should I just wait patiently for a 704?

I don't own that particular speaker, but the 706 is the same series and would be a perfect timber match.

I agree.
I've listened to both, and the 706 is the better speaker for sure. Both will match perfectly, but the 706 has better bass.

No, that does not make sense on many levels. First off, a large speaker is not inherently louder than than a smaller speaker; in fact, a larger speaker is likely to be less sensitive, so it would be quieter given the same amplification; however, whether it's louder of softer is completely moot because you control each speaker's volume (channel level) with the AVR.

Both the 703's and 706 center has the same drivers while the 704's are smaller. No it will not over power the 703's. Once calibrated they'll blend perfectly. -

Both the 704c and 706c will blend perfectly. The nice thing about the 704 is they didn't cut out the mid range driver like most companies do on their smaller center offerings For all practical purposes the 704 is just as good as the 706. If you can find a deal on the 706 from an authorized dealer though go for it. Make sure you have the room, the 706 is a very large and heavy speaker!

That is it right there. The tweeter and mdrange are the same drivers and that is the major area of concern. All three of these are from the same series and have the same efficiency rating...88 dB...for the whole LSiM line! They all just have lower -3dB down points. With the DSP power of most systems these days combined with the work that manufacturers put into making all their same series speaker work better together....these are really discussions from yesteryear. With the LSiM series Polk has made it easy! 704 vs. 706 is splitting hairs...very fine ones!
