New Outlet

I've been going through our 1979 house and replacing all the original A/C outlets as their clamping have become weak; it's time. I haven't been doing anything fancy, although I did add a 20A circuit to the garage as it only had one 15A outlet to feed the whole place.

However, I just picked this up for my stereo as I wanted something a little better than contractor grade, but not a $100 PS Audio receptacle. Picked up a Leviton 8200-PLI hospital grade outlet, but more importantly, the outlet is all brass with no steel. It also has an integrated LED to show when the outlet has power which I think is kind of neat; although obviously not needed. The outlet cost me $8, so no matter what the aural outcome (if any), I will now have a high quality, good clamping, non-ferrous outlet for my 2 channel system!

That's neat. I've never seen such an outlet with power indicator LED. I have Leviton commercial/industrial grade outlets installed throughout my house, except for my 2-channel system, where I have a Furutech isolated ground outlet on a dedicated isolated ground line. They provide a vice grip on everything you plug into them.

    it should do just fine.
I replaced all my audio outlets with the orange ones with the isolated ground. The wife hated them cause of the color. I just laughed and said "If our guests would like to crawl around to look at our outlet color have at it". them suckers grip VERY tight....

I think the outlet will be a great value and solid performer.

I'll post a picture when I install it.

Not sure lube is needed unless he is going to backdoor his outlet. OUCH

I'm a fan of Leviton's hospital grade surge outlets:
    http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/SectionDisplay.jsp?section=39994&minisite=10251

I still use a SurgeX on top of that for my system, but they're perfect for wall-mount TVs where you want some surge protection, but don't want to try to cram a strip behind the TV.

Finally installed the new outlet, and it was a great fit. Contacts were solid, and it dropped right in place of the old outlet. Clamping on the plugs is solid but not too difficult, and the little green LED is a fun indicator that I now have a hospital grade plug feeding my system with all brass/copper contacts!

    How does it sound?

When I upgraded my wall receptacle it was a night/day difference. I was shocked how much improvement I heard and I never would have believed it unless hearing it for myself. Mine was a $30 Porter Port.

A month into the new outlet and no issues! I highly recommend the Leviton 8200-PLI for a quality outlet without an audiophile price.
