New subs ordered..
With the completion of my dedicated HT fast approaching my current pair of BIC PL-200's just are not cutting it in the bass department. Not a bad budget sub and they are a lot of bang for buck. Sounded good in my living room, but not so much in the theater.
Dual SVS PC-12NSD's are on the way and I think they will satisfy my bass junkie habit. My placement options are somewhat limited and talking with the folks over at SVS they suggested the cylinder subs because of the small footprint. Had I gone with a smaller screen it would have opened up my placement options a bit.
Will be interesting to get them setup and dialed in. When I told the person at SVS I was a bit of a bass junkie he said "oh. you want a back rub when you watch movies..".
This purchase along with buying an Onkyo TX-NR1010 put me over my budget a bit which makes me a little nervous.. although I'm sure that will all go out the window the first full movie I watch..

Dude. I just got a pair of PC12-NSD's myself! Awesome purchase! I have no regrets whatsoever.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

I'm looking forward to it. Should have ordered them on Monday so I would have them for the weekend but it's a good thing since I won't have that distraction to keep me from finishing other items.
The only SVS I've ever heard was a SB1000 I purchased for a media room upgrade I did. They wanted a small and unobtrusive sub. Was very impressed with the amount and quality of bass it put out given its tiny size. Not chest pounding bass, but more than enough to fill out movie soundtracks. -
cannot beat SVS for the money; your in for a treat! Their tech support is also open until 9pm which is great if you work a 9-5.

So where are you thinking about placing them?
Given the choice, I'd put them both along the front wall, preferably in the front corners.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Well done. I've got 2 of the box versions and they do a fantastic job.

That is about my only place to put them (front corners). Placing a couple of PB-12's under the screen was an option, but they are just too big. With them being 22 inches deep I was afraid they would mess with the imaging of the center channel speaker. Plus their height would put them just 3 inches under the screen which is a bit too tight.
Given my room width, screen width and the width of my A7's, I'll have about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of clearance once the PC's are in place. There is a little wiggle room on the A7's but I don't want to move them any closer to the screen unless I have no other option.
One advantage to PC's being in the front corners is they will blend in. SVS tech support is indeed open until 9pm EDT.. which is fine and dandy except I'm on the west coast.. If I need to take a day of work and talk with SVS on setting them up, it wouldn't bother me one bit to do it.
Having them shipped to work. My co-workers flipped out when the screen arrived. These should get them to blow a gasket. -
Front corners will be SWEET. The bass will not be localized at all; it will just EXIST. Cheers.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

I looked a lot of different subs and most all of them were too big one way or another. The HSU's and SV PB-12's were basically too tall (22+ inches) and way too deep (2+ feet). I even considered a pair of Epik Empire's but again they are just too big. Not to mention totally out of stock.
Space is an issue for me since I stuffed the largest screen I could fit in the room. I have zero regrets with the size of the screen and even though it has created some challenges, the end result has far exceeded my expectations.
When you have a picture in your head of how the finished product will look and what you end up with is better than you imagined, it makes one step back and ask "How in the F... did I pull this off??"
They are set to be delivered on Wednesday. Can't wait!
Once everything is done I'll post up some pics if anyone is interested. -

Well.. look what just breezed through the door...
Going to be a late evening for me.. sadly something came up so I only have enough time to get these home, then turn around and leave again for several hours. My co-workers are just shaking their heads, thinking I'm nuts.. actually I'm starting to think I'm a bit nuts having bought two of them..

PSSSTTTT..... poppycock.... you need at least 4 of them to really be nuts ..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
hahah..poppycock.. there's one I haven't heard in a while.
I did pre-wire the back of the room for two more subs and butt kickers.. if the need ever came up... -

So how are you PC12's working out? When you say you pre-wired, can you be more specific? Do you mean you ran an RCA cable? What is the longest run? What cables did you use? -
They are working out quite well. I can get people to jump in their seats on hard bass hits. Quite an interesting feeling when they really start to pressurize the room.
As far as pre-wiring the back of the room, I ran two 25' RCA cables and speaker cables from the equipment rack to the back off the room when I was pulling other cables through the walls. Nothing special for the RCA cables. Just the RG6 RCA cables from Monoprice. -
Would love to hear a full review on those!AVR - Onkyo NR809
