Sub crossover(sub or avr)

my PSW300 has a frequency crossover knob, but my avr settings also has crossover setting...which is the functioning setting? Like if I put 120hz from the sub knob, but my avr is set to 80hz...which is the true setting? I use a sub out cable if that matters.

The scenario that you gave it would be the avr, because the avr is sending 80 and below to the sub.

Now if you use the speaker level inputs it's going to be the sub.

Use the settings in your AVR for bass management, and turn the low pass filter on the sub as high as it will go.
    My humble setup...

    ...is no more.

Ok so just to be clear...for the picture above, the low pass filter setting would be the same as "frequency"?...So set to 125?

Yes, but the idea is to get the crossover out of the way since your using the one in the receiver. You don't want a double filtering of the signal.

I too have question about the sub I'm confused so hopefully u guys can help me out. I have 2 psw 505's I have the low pass filter set as high as it will go, now in my avr settings I have the LFE crossover set to 120hz with my main and center channel speakers set to 80hz and surrounds set at 120hz. Is this good or do I need to switch up some things? Any help is very much appreciated

The LFE is set properly. How did you get the 120 hz crossover for the surrounds? Did you run Audyssey to get those values?

I just upgraded to 7.1...my side surrounds were set (by audyssey) to 100hz and rear speakers to 40hz. Does that seem right?

as tonyb said you dont want 2 crossovers fighting each other if the reciever is at 80 the sub should be at ?120? so there is no chance .
The audessy will take care of fine tuning anyway .
True setting is what comes from the avr , the sub cant make a signal higher than 80 since the avr stops at 80 hz
