On a Google search Friday I discovered a cool hi-fi shop I never knew existed. The Audio Alternative in Ft. Collins CO. http://www.audioalternative.com/ Its a really cool shop that the owner bought a huge house and set up shop in there. He has a ton of vinyl and lots of neat and expensive stuff. I got to listen to these
Vandersteen model 7 talk about flawless imaging but for 50,000 and the other 70,000 of gear running them they better be. I never knew the shop existed, anyone in the area I highly recommend paying them a visit. It it a relaxed atmosphere and they love to do demos.

Yes you will Larry you kind of go into sensory overload when you go in there is so much to look at. -
I want my house to look like that..

Well something "followed" me home from the shop dammit!

Looks like a great shop. I see a couple of Revox A77 in the first photo, very cool!

Do tell.......looks like my kind of shop!
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

I started another thread on it http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?146641-This-is-what-followed-me-home-from-the-stereo-shop -
Ken beat me to the ReVox shout-out! :-)
Even from my jaded and cynical hifi perspective, I do see some cool stuff there. -

I had a couple of friends that did something like the owner of that shop.
They started a "custom Hi-Fi" business so they could deduct all their hobby expenses.
It got so successful that they went into it full time. This was back in the late 60's and 70's
I remember driving one of then to go look at some amps that were advertised in the Los Angeles Times.
Four Marantz 9s, original boxes and all paperwork, 100% as new, consecutive serial numbers.
And I remember thinking that he paid too much. $400.00 for each amp. He used them in his own system.
He had a pair of Ubangis. JBL graqphic, 2 Phase Linears for the bass horns, pair of 375s for the mids and pair of 075s for the top end. They were 12 feet tall.
Here is what they looked like.

I remember listening to Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" on them. Highest SPL I have ever encountered and crystal clear too.
The room they were in was 18 foot ceiling, and about 75 by 120 feet. -
