PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC in the rack

Well on the quest for DAC's I decided to go for the PWD from PSA
I paid a little more than I should for this but it has a full warranty as its an old demo model. I figure the upgrade for it will be $1000 so I will be doing that later on down the line. But before I sink 1k into the DAC my best bet is to buy some upgraded power cords, balanced XLR's and a couple of usb and digital cables
I am anxious to get this up and running and try some 96khz downloads I have so I left the pwd and the amp powered on since I got up

You're going to pay more for the 24-192 downloads than 24-96. Most opinions I've read is that people can't hear a difference between 24-192 and 24-96. Save some money amd get 24-96. The important thing is that it's 24-bit.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

I just re-read this. If you were looking for the Hotel Cali 96kHz version it's 'only' $17. That was the 192 version you saw for $272 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Has any of you actually put 2 versions to the test with 192 and 96 and found the resolution to sound similar?

I was wondering the same thing. I would really like to hear 2 side by side.polkfarmboy wrote: »Has any of you actually put 2 versions to the test with 192 and 96 and found the resolution to sound similar?

I've downloaded a few 192's but mostly 96's figuring there couldn't be much difference if any. If it's an album I really dig then I'm not going to let $7 stop me 'just in case'. My CA 840C upsamples everything to 384 kHz anyway so the source file being 96 vs 192 matters probably even less? I don't know. My PS Audio DL III that I'm demo'ing upsamples everything to 96 if it's below that and has the option to upsample to 192 so not sure how that plays into it either. I do know that I can hear a difference when I switch between 96 and 192 upsampling on the DL III but also not sure how that might correspond to a 96 vs 192 master.
edit: forgot to mention, lately I just usually wait for the 10% or 15% off offers they send out periodically.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. I've listened to both, 24/96 and 24/192, not on my gear but others. Could barely tell the difference but to my ears the 192 had slightly more detail audible but also lost some musicality. To my ears anyway the magic lies in the 24/96 for both detail and musicality. Just my thoughts on it, yours certainly may differ.HT SYSTEM-
