Does anyone here knows of a reputable repair shop in Houston? I have an Adcom GFA-555 that needs service.
Thanks

So I took the Adcom to a repair shop and they quoted me $350 to repair the amp.
They said that that the output stage (?) needs to be replaced (order a new one from ADCOM). The quote also includes replacing the binding posts (which I already have) and replacing the damaged the RCA terminals.
I bought these amp used/damaged, thinking that I would only have to replace the RCA jacks, but clearly that back fired. I posted pictures a while ago, and was told that it has been modded, but I don't know to what extent.
Should I pay to have it fixed (output stage, RCAs and binding posts) or let it go?
Thanks in advance.HT:

Wow...that thing looks NOTHING like my 3 GFA-555s on the inside.
I would have a hard time spending $350 to repair one considering I paid ~$350 each for all 3 of mine."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Yeah, that's my dilemma. What I don't know is if the mods are worth fixing it.HT:

Thats outrageous. $350? Your essentially buying that amp all over again. If you have to drop $350, buy another GFA-555 and put that amp in the closet until you find a reasonable repair center.
Hypothetically speaking (because I don't know if I'm breaking any rules...)
I'd buy it as is (broken) for $225 out the door. I say that because I believe the amp, when operating, is worth $300 minimum. It would cost me $75 (maybe a little more) to fix at my local Adcom factory-authorized repair shop.
*******
That said, it was modded - I don't know how that would factor in to the repair cost. I STILL would hold onto it and find a cheaper quote or sell it as is.Do you hear that buzzing noise?
