Man, I can't tell you guys how long I've been wanting a pair of these with the ebony side panels. A pair popped up less than 10 minutes from me and I had to have them.
I'm surprised at how much bass these things put out. They sound more like towers than bookies. The tweeter is nice. There is a bit of mud in the mids & lows, but I'm hoping Trey's Fortress xover mods will help that out. It's hard not to hear the mud when all I've been listening to is a pair of Magnepan MG10's for the past few months. The MG10's are just wonderful speakers, but the wife can't stand having them in the living room and that's the only spot for the stereo these days.
I need more time with them but I'll be sure to check-in in a few weeks

Let's see some pics
Will do! It's dark and we don't have a ton of lighting in our living room, so I'll snap some in the morning. -
I just had a set of Ebony LSi9 in here and you are right, that is a classy finish for sure!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Congrats! The XO mods definitely make a difference. +1 on the bass response - it's pretty impressive, especially in a smaller room.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

Those weren't Chuck's were they? Been jonesing to get my ears on a set with your crossover work done to em and have been waiting impatiently. Hehe.
Definitely a bigger fan of the ebony aesthetics because the woodwork in our house is so hard to match properly."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Guys, I got a few more hours of listening in last night.
I'm starting to like these little guys, a lot! They don't have the "biggness" of the Maggies, which at first threw me off. But they have other qualities that I'm really liking. For one, they are so smoooooooooooth. They also have enough slam for me to remove my sub from the mix. I
They sound phenomenal with hip-hop & rock. Both of which the Maggies cannot do. I don't have much of a collection of hip-hop, but I decided to throw on a few tracks and I loved it. -
I look forward to your LSI9 journey impressions. I have a cherry set with modded XO and a stock XO set with maple sides. I have not listened to the stock set yet, and only limited time on the modded ones before my amp puked. Not sure if I will transplant parts or modify the maple ones as well. It took me about a week to solder up the VR3 DIY fortress project. Just got a NAD2600A so I may have a chance to play around this weekend. Keep us posted.
I put the modded LSI9s in place of some Mills/Sonicap modded LSI7s and was way pleased with the improved bottom end and imaging. My WYWH pink floyd immersion bluray was repeated several times the first nite... -

Hey Cincy! Well, after getting in a few more hours after work, I'm more and more happy with my purchase! I've owned so many speakers, most under $1,500 but a few in the $3,000 range. I'm just so stoked on these little guys because they have detail for days, have great slam, and are sooooo stupid easy to listen to. They're so easy on bad recordings but have so much sparkle and resolution which I love. I can see why you have two pairs!
I'm very interested in hearing your impressions on your modded vs unmodded sets. VERY interested Is the Carver TFM-45 I sold you still around? -
I should have a modified LSi9 recording (in stereo) any day now! :-P- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Hell yeah man! Can't wait to hear em'! -
Yup, the TFM-45 is still running strong. I know you have tried a fair amount of nice gear which is why I am interested to see how your journey with the 9s goes. I heard great things about the new LSiM lines, but also that weaknesses in the upstream chain can be revealed. Not something a midfi budget guy wants to hear so I grabbed the LSI series when they hit closeout pricing. Maybe I can try some a/b listening over the weekend between the 2 versions.
