Need Suggestion: AVR-310 / RTi38
Hi everyone,
Here's my current HT setup:
Receiver: H/K AVR-310
Front: RTi38
Center: CS100
Rear: Pioneer S-CR505
Subwoofer: None
I have had this system for a while, since the amp's rated output is only 50watts x 5 and 60watts x 2 in stereo mode, is it ok in HT aspect as well as stereo listening aspect?
Thanks in advance and please forgive my poor english...

how is 6 channels stereo? im confused about how much wattage it has, but anyway that doesnt matter. the amount of watts are deceiving. i have a luxman receiver that is rated at 70 wpc i think. i then have an aiwa receiver that is rated at 100 wpc. now this should technically make the aiwa better right? wrong the luxman will eat the aiwa alive. it will play louder and cleaner then the aiwa could ever dream of. your receiver sounds fine for the speakers you have. h/k seems to conservatively rate their receivers neway.

oops, it was a typo, should be 60wpc in stereo mode.
thanks for the reply airplay! cause I heard about that not nough power will fry my RTi38 since it's rated 150w power handling? -
Chen - You will not "fry" your RTi38's. 60wpc is not "low" in relation to the RTi38's power handling capabilities.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

the living room is about 23"x14", will the current set be fine(loud enough)? or should I upgrade to RTi8 or RTi10 as fronts and make RTi38 as rear?

Going to all Polk speakers is going to "timber match" the sound from all your speakers. As for is the 38's enough that depends on how loud you listen to your system. But to get a louder system your need to double your recevers output to make a noticable diffrence. IE you have 5 x 50 wpc to notice a (3db louder I think) you need to double the power 5 x 100 wpc.
Hope this helps a little

how much louder does it make to my ears with +3db?
btw, should I set it to small in AVR speaker setup menu?
thanks! -
Your receiver should be just fine given your setup as it stands to date. Since you don't have a subwoofer, I would set the RTi38's to large, and the center to small.
If you decide to add a subwoofer, and there are people here to offer suggestions in that regard, you could get another pair of RTi38's (for rears) and upgrade your center to a CSi20 or CSi30. That would be a nice upgrade path, I think. Nothing wrong with your setup right now, but that wouldn't be a bad system upgrade path.

The Harman AVR receivers are plenty powerful as others have said. There is no need to worry about damaging the speakers with that amp. I agree with Loud that you should set the 38s to large and all others to small and sub set to no. Three dB is about the smallest audible difference. It is often said that 10 dBs louder sounds like twice as loud.Graham
