Put a pair in last night between my pre and the amp ( see main rig ) heard an imediate diff but wasent sure if in my head or ears! This morning my wife came into my " man cave" and asked if i did somethind new to my system? Said the bass was comming into her room and shaking her bed! LOL. So i guess the bass extention and depth have truly improved as she had no idea i did anything new!!! Killed two birds with one stone, better sound and pissed the wife off at same time!! This IS a good day to die!

No day is a good day to die -- just think of all the great sound you'd miss!

On the other hand, who knows what's on the other side. Perhaps, great harp music!

I've used King Cobra's with good results for quite awhile, and my wife noticed the difference, too, when I installed my first pair.

Some things are worth money, and other thing are priceless!

soundfreak1, I've been happy with Perreaux electronics for almost 25 years, including amps and preamps from various generations of their products. They have great build quality and, IMHO, reproduce sound with accuracy and precision.

With respect to the SM2 preamp, I have never used it. I have two SA33s, that I no longer use and an SM6P and an SM6P MKII that I now use in my two "main" systems. The SM2 preceded the SA33s by about five years, I believe. I "retired" my SA33s because they were built before CDs were on the road to becoming more common and pervasive than vinyl. The early Perreaux preamps, IMHO, have a strong phono capability, but they are not so good in providing adequate gradations of amplitude when the source is a CD player. There are about three "clicks" on the volume control that provide "quiet," "moderate," and "loud" volume. If you go beyond the third or fourth click, then the volume exceeds my taste -- and definitely my wife's.

The SM6P, a more recent preamp from Perreaux, solved the problem of volume gradations, but at the recommendation of Martin van Rooyen, GM of Perreaux, I purchased the more recent and current Perreaux top-of-the-line preamp, the SM6P MKII, to control my Prisma 750 monoblocks. As a result, I got not only the volume control I needed, but also much higher resolution, greater clarity and much improved transients.

If you're interested in reading about my experience with Perreaux and Polk gear, check out the thread that I posted on this Forum titled: "Polk Audio SDA Speakers & Perreaux Industries Electronics: My Affair de Coeur."

Perreaux products are great. They appear to last "forever," and they produce good sound -- when used for what they were designed to reproduce.
