Looking for a new pre pro. Suggestions

My Rotel RSP-1068 has served me well for many years, but it's time to get another pre that has HDMI. It's getting to be a pita swapping out HDMI cables between my dvd player, blu-ray, front projector, plasma tv. Looking to spend around $1000, new or used. 2 channel is not a priority as far a sound quality, I have a Musical Fidelity A5 preamp for that. Auto calibration would be nice. I really need to be able to switch between 2 HDMI outputs. One for the TV and another for the FP. Thanks.

Accessoriess4less has a nice Marantz pre-pro (AV7005) that would fit that bill.

Factory refurb, 2 HDMI outs, Audyssey XT, balanced and unbalanced out, 7.2 capable, Zone 2 & Zone 3 pre-outs. ONLY downfall is its only got 4 HDMI inputs... but you could in theory get a HDMI switcher that is remote control capable and if you have a universal remote it wouldnt be too big a deal.

Not many players in the pre/pro w/ HDMI game, even less with 2 HDMI outputs. In fact the Marantz is the only one I can think of that has 2 HDMI outputs. If there are others, I'm not aware of them.

I would think if you have a programmable remote, Ender's suggestion of an HDMI switcher would be the way to go, rather than being forced into a particular pre/pro. Not that the Marantz is bad, but neither is the Rotel you already have.

    Something like this:

I would look at the Oppo BDP-105...

That thing is no regular Blu-Ray player, it's a full on Pre-Pro replacement. Two HDMI outputs and two HDMI inputs (one is even MHL compatable), digital audio inputs, 7.1 analog out and dedicated 2ch out (RCA and Balanced).

When my Denon kicks the bucket, I will be picking that bad boy up.

Check out the Onkyo PR-SC5509, I believe it also has 2HDMI outs. The 5508 I have does.

Are you using your 105 as a pre?

Thanks for the input. I like the Marantz and if it's built anything like the DV-9600 that I have, that's even better. I was toying with the idea of the HDMI switcher but I think I'm ready for a change and simplicity that a newer prepro can offer. The Onkyo is slightly out of my price range but who knows. I noticed that the Marantz has 2 sub outs. Does that mean that they can be adjusted seperately? That would be nice. I don't think I will go the Oppo route.

+1 for the Marantz AV7005. Lots of features, reliable, has passive HDMI switching, and bottomline sounds fantastic

I liked my Lexicon when I had a multi-channel system.

Just because I'm looking at this unit for myself in the future:

Why are you passing on the Oppo?

I had an Oppo universal player a few years ago, forgot what number. It wouldn't work with my system. DVD-A and SACD in multichannel was fine but 2 channel SACD listening through my Musical Fidelity preamp had distortion. I was able to return it for a full refund. Oppo tech said that the Oppo wasn't suited for my particular system configuration. Something lik 2 channel outputs were in parallel with front l and front r multi output. I have since got another universal player (Marantz DV-9600)that I plan to keep. But like I said, it did perform good in 5.1. The Oppo BDP-105 looks like a nice player but I already have a bluray player. I also need 12 volt triggers to turn on amps and power centers. I need at least 3 opt inputs and 3 or more hdmi inputs.

I think the one thing that the Oppo needs to be a real game changer is Audyssey.
