Budget would be nice. Your gonna have to spend some cash to get that kinda wattage out of a tube amp.

You may want to investigate a tube preamp with a solid state amp - great pairing.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

+2....That much wattage in a pure tube amp is some bucks. Another option is hybrid tube/ss, or even class D or ice amps. Many SS amps have a warm tube sound too. Really depends on budget.

This will be my first tube and I am unsure of the power needed, speakers rated for 300w and 88 efficiency. I am currently running them on an amp that is 660wpc but the gain never goes beyond 1/3 of the way up. I need to get my multimeter out and check how many watts they are actually getting but haven't yet.

I would like to stay around $1,000 and used is definitely an option. I'm not sure what to expect wattage wise at that price though. Total tube noob!

    I just found a Jolida 801A 70w for $795 on Audiogon...

I don't know anything about the Jolida amps but have seen them recommended often.

I see a Jolida hybrid that is 200w @ 4 Ohm that has a tube input stage and SS MOSFET output stage for $788. How are the hybrids amps?

The general rule of thumb with tubes amps is they are equal to a SS that is 2 to 3 times the tube amp's rated power. That is, a 50 wpc tube amp will play as loudly as a 100 to 150wpc SS amp. This is because tube amps soft clip.

There are plenty of tube amps on Audiogon. Just saw a mint VTL 50/50 with a matching pre amp (no remote control) for $850.00. Since it hasn't been used in a long time it will need to be brought up on a Variac. However, there are many others to chose from.

That Jolida is an integrated amp in case you missed that.

I will only be running a DAC and a TT so integrated is ok if it has a TT input, which the Jolida JD1501P does not have. From their website I see no rating for 4 Ohm so not even sure it does 4 Ohm. No manuals on their site.

The LSi25s should actually be easier to drive then the LSi15s as you're not driving the woofers.

I have a Yaqin ms 12b- which is a tube preamp w/phono and 1 linestage. I also have a Parasound HC -750 amp. These are a nice combo that will do everything you want and are a great way to get into tubes w/a turntable involved.

    Check out this thread. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?139014-Yaqin-MS-12b-phono-and-linestage-pre-w-extra-tubes!

PM if you want to know more. Bottom line tube pre w/phono and linestage input plus some nice nos tubes to roll, and nice SS a,mp all $450 shipped CONUS. Deal.

Also check out the Dared MC-7P. 3 line inputs plus a phono input, and the phono pre-amp sounds fantastic. Also has a remote control for volume. I have this piece and love it.

801A is a good amp, 70WPC RMS, KT88 and 6550 power tubes. I used one for a few years, it was good stock, it was VERY good modified (added choke transformer and recapped everything with Mullard and Elna capacitors).
