I'm curious. How many of us here are cyclists?

I have to many crash & burns to mention but a couple that I remember were, about 5 years ago decided to go for an evening ride, I had just bought a new cats eye and I wanted to test it out that particular night. I rushed out and forgot my clear lens safety glasses, nothing worse than getting nats and skeeters in your eyes. I was to lazy to go back in get them, 15 miles or so into it, going down hill around a corner got a flying something in my eye took my eyes off the path a brief second to rub my eye, I look up a Doe and a couple of fawns were right on the path needless to say I smaked into her doing 25mph or more flipped over my bike tumbled a few times and a tree stopped me from going into the woods. I was pretty skinned up the forks were bent that I survived that was a miracle.
Last year riding and testing out a 29er going down a hill called the screamer my front tire hit a tree rut my friend said I did a couple of mid air flips landed face down in the dirt took me 1/2 hour to shake off the cobwebs that ruined my ride that Day. Stay safe everyone.Home Theater

I'm insane but Saturday I'll be partaking in a 110 mile gravel grinder here in KS. I'm not up for the whole 200mi yet; next year though, next year it's on. Gotta have goals right? But let's see how I do Saturday...

Well thanks to the open planes of Kansas and 20-25mph winds, I made it to the support stop at 61.5mi in 5:58. Called it quits there. Could've rested and maybe got 10-15 more miles but I didn't have another 50 in me. But it was already the longest I've been on a bike and the farthest, let alone in the harshest of conditions, so I'm counting this a win. 56-57 miles of head/cross winds and only 5ish of tail wind. Took it out if me like I never expected.
I bet your **** was sore that day. -

Used to be a cyclist during my college days. Was lucky to live in the northwest corner of he Denver metro area with quick access to the amazing and brutal Morgal-Bizmark course made famous in the Red Zinger and later Coors Bike Classic. The best I ever did was 2.75 laps, giving up before the climb up The Wall. Those of you who have seen the movie American Flyers will know from the first day of the "Hell of the West" scene. For the rest here is a video explaining the course.

That's some awesome mileage into a stiff wind. I've got that mileage in me, but not into the wind the whole way. I'd count that as a win too.
A couple of weeks ago, I was aiming for a 40 miler. I ran into similar winds, and called it a day at 22 ( the road back to the parking lot). If it's not fun I don't like to play.My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -

The Bike saved me!
I've always had a bike but started riding more serious back in the mid 80's. Around the second year of college I started having panic attacks that got so bad that I had to drop out. I moved back home and it got so bad to the point where I could not drive and did not even want to leave the house.
Through treatment and therapy I needed to find a way to push myself and relieve stress so I started making myself ride. There were a couple of awesome bike shops in my area and after seeing an Italian racer up close and personal I was starting to get hooked. The process was slow but I went from riding a mile or two to riding around the city. I eventually started working for the bike shop around the corner and started to meet a lot of cyclist and started doing club rides.
Here is my old Centurion Turbo...my first decent road bike (Chromoly frame, chromed fork, rear stays) in my life that I bought with my own money. This is around '87 on the Campus of Michigan State Univ. after I returned back to school.
My next bike around the late '80's-'90 was one I bough from a Doctor that had in in the shop on commission. He never really rode it much. A Ciocc MOKBA '80. This was an awesome example and introduction to me about what an Italian road racing bike was all about. This thing rode like a dream on long rides and was much better than the Centurion.
Through those years I did many club rides, did some races, and rode 85 miles in a day for the first time in my life, etc, etc etc,.... I met many new people and to this day still have friends who ride. I over the years stopped riding much and even sold my road bike. After years of marriage and not riding much with the wife then after my Son was born I went out and bought a cheap ATB as I was starting to get into that but was not sure about it. An aluminum frame Pacific NOMAD that I bought from Target of all places. Oh GOD help me!
....But, it gets the job done for now.
I promised myself that if I put in some serious mile that I would reward myself with a dream bike. Many years have passed and that has not happened yet. However, I'm pushing myself to ride more and have co-workers that ride as well as riding clubs in the area that I relocated to last year. I have a vision of something made of carbon fiber or titanium in my future. Maybe a nice road and ATB? I guess I need to get moving? Holy crap.....I crashed on my road bike last Friday.::redface:
I was on an overpass crossing over a dry river to join up with a path on the other side, I was making a slow left to join up with the path on the other side when for some stupid reason I swung out a bit and rode right into a hole while I was turning.
Did I mention I was on clipless pedals, as in cleated in? I couldn't release fast enough, and down I wentMy equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
Not as embarrassing as I've done worse. Had a guy coming my direction on a slightly wider than single track mountain bike trail and he was too beginner to know to move over apparently. So I had to slow down, try not to slide off the edge as I passed him. Too slow I guess, came to a stop when hitting a rock and fell...right on top of him! Clipped in and couldn't get off. And his super cute g/f was right behind watching the whole thing. Why couldn't I have fallen on her? Haha.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
