I was looking around some sites and ran across a wooden headshell for a turntable, it cost about $125.00 just for the shell no cartridge ! what would be the advantage to a wood headshell ? is there a advantage ? or just aesthetics ? thanks

The "theory" is probably resonance damping. There are numerous - and generally quite expensive - wood body cartridges based on the same general idea.
