Dual 505's?

Guys, need some opinions. Funds aren't going to allow for a 'great' sub right now so I'm going to have to settle for 'good'. I also really want dual subs for the obvious reasons of more headroom, fewer null areas and so on. How well would dual psw505s work for me? Can they do music and movies well?? Can they dig deep for movies?
Also, any dual sub comments are welcome! It doesn't get discussed much about setup or individual's thoughts on them.

I just read your post. I purchased the PSW10 sub last year. I am very pleased with it. I listen to music almost every day. The sub provides the fuller base I wanted. It does not put out like a rock concert in my great room because it is 24x32x16 which is a large space. This past weekend I purchased the PSW505 12 inch sub and it was delivered yesterday. I placed the 505 in front replacing the PSW10. I then moved the PSW10 to an outside wall at a 90 degree angle about 12 feet away from the 505. Placement was dictated mainly by looks. I found that in my case I set the phase on the 10 to 180 and left the 505 at 0. Anyhow the result is that I really have nice clear base through the whole room that is better than just with the 10. I found that I can shut off the 505 and just leave the 10 on for my music as my chair is only about 8 feet away from my main speakers. For movies today (Das Boot) I had them both on. The 505 really does add depth to the movie all by itself but with both it's something to hear. Very nice. My reason for getting the 505 was to move the 10 to the bedroom for the stereo there, TSi-100 speakers, but now I,m not sure I will do that. I just may wait awhile and get a third sub for the bedroom. If so it will probably be another PSW10 as it gets the job done.

Welcome to CP but it's BASS, not base. Just a pet peeve of mine....

Thank you for pointing out my error in word usage. I do that often as I have been typing in all my jobs. I just type my thoughts without thinking about the word or the keyboard. This will cause me problems from time to time in my work. I am not very good in sentence structure, word usage or spelling but I did notice that you closed your comment with an ellipsis. The generally accepted proper use of an ellipsis to close a sentence or thought without completion is to use three (3) dots or periods. I am not writing this to present a contentious debate but only to point out that everyone makes unintended errors and that many people will recognize an error that is trivial and will not comment further about the error. I only posted my original reply to the above because I am very pleased with my Polk speakers. The bass is the base to most sound systems. If it wasn't the base to a sound reproduction system then the bass would not be discussed so much by everyone and the topic of bass would simply be ignored. I love my Polk subs. My last comment is this: "When I go fishing - am I fishing for Bass or bass?

Welcome Bass. Let's maybe take a closer look, are you playing your bass while fishing for Bass or just listening to the bass made by your new pair of Polk 505's. Back to subs I use 4 subs in my main HT, the more the better and I just picked up a 505 in December from Amazon for $179 shipped, cannot beat the bass deal. I just looked and the price is back up to $199 but still a bass steal.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

Wow! A lot of activity here. First to Ken. You were absolutely correct as I did use the wrong word. I read your comment, re-read my post and felt such an idiot but you gave me a reason to say something else as I really don't know how much I can say about my speakers. I was hoping that my reply would be somewhat amusing but I may have fallen short of my goal. This is my third attempt to reply. My first was interrupted by my clicking on "Reply to Thread" which wiped out my response and gave me a blank screen. My second attempt to reply was interrupted by my having to leave to get my taxes done. The good news is that I get a refund this year. Three (3) dollars federal and twenty (20) dollars state. What a deal. Now for Michael1947, I wish to say that I have spent a great deal of time over the years fishing and I used to take a little radio out with me when fishing. 1947 was also a very good year for me. A few years ago I upgraded to an IPod that I still use. I have never taken a bass to catch Bass and the thought of your running four (4) subs at one time is unreal. My main speakers at home here are DCM TF-500 models. I purchased these speakers in November of 1988. These speakers have been played almost every day since then and are still going strong. I still like them and will not change them until something breaks. I also own a DCM TB-1 sub that I purchased in 1998. I never used a sub until then. I still have that sub and it is still going strong also. I don't have the DCM sub at my home here which is the reason I purchased my first Polk early last year. I ordered the 505 sub last weekend when I saw the reduced price. I am pleased with both subs and using them both in my great room.

WTG my tall masted friend. I think subs are the key element in HT. I feel you can have a fine, very fine system with minimal speakerage sitting around, say a pair of LSI9's as mains, something of a large center perhaps a pair of LSI7's and a couple of surrounds and the likely candidates would be the LSI-FX's. These little guys with at least a pair of good subs will perform with gusto, you may think you're at the I-MAX. Great on the music scene also.:razz:Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

2 505's is a great sub. I did a comparo with an Hsu sub and the 505's kicked butt. I own a Marantz,b&w, setup with paradigm subs and guess what the Polks out pound them. They never fail. 2 polk 505's will beat out any single 12" ht sub under $1000. If not i will personally buy your 505's back. I did so much research on my "low end" (yeah right) polk setup I may do a research paper on it.
I install much higher priced set ups than even my Marantz / b&w system and my polk cs1, monitor 60, monitor 30, psw 505 setup with yamaha 673 receiver for the money blows away much more expensive setups. Even in stereo I can compete with many hi fi kits I have installed using components costing thousands more. In fact, the last I installed using Nad and TOTL (whatever) $5000 Sony es towers used speaker wires that literally cost more than all of my polk speakers combined. To my ears, my Polks sounded as good if not better. -
I'm glad to know you've had such good luck with the dual 505s! I'm still torn between doing this or saving longer and going for SVS tube subs. Just can't make up my mind.AVR - Onkyo NR809

Sorry if I missed it, how big is your listening room?
I have one PSW505 right now as well. While two would help fill out the room as previously noted, I personally would save up for a pair of SVS or similar subs.
Maybe try to snag an open box PSW505 from Newegg. I've seen them go for $127 open box with free shipping.
