I had one of these before and really liked it. It was Very responsive to tube rolling. When I first got mine, it sounded way too warm and gooey and bloated for my taste. Then I rolled in some nos tubes and it totally transformed the whole presentation. I'm sure you'll love it.

    Ern,
thanks for the insights. Do you remember what NOS tubes you rolled in to make them sound better? Why did you get rid of it?

When I talked Mark O'Brien @ Rouge couple of weeks ago about preamp to use with Zu speakers (101db efficient, so having 55 watts was more than good) he also had good thing to say about the Atlas and 99 combination.

    Darren,

Contact Mark O'Brien at Rogue. He has many contacts (Rogue dealers) and may know where a used 90 may be up for sale.

    Regards,
    Carl

Shoot, I knew you were going to ask that. I don't remember the whole line up I was using. Do a search on this forum because I'm sure I wrote about it. I do remember I was using nos Tung Sol 6550's that I bought from a Polkie which was a significant improvement over stock. I also recall that I contacted Mark and used his recommendations. He was helpful and very responsive.

I got rid of it NOT because of the sonics, because it sounded blissful, but because of all the downsides to tube amps:

    1. Expensive upkeep with finding the right tubes. They aren't plug and play. I found that to get it sounding the best you really need to explore and try several different tubes to find the right ones and the right combinations. Nos tubes can be expensive.

    2. Regularly biasing was a pain because I would have to take it out of the rack and take the lid off. I guess this was the most minor issue of them all.

    3. I found tubes a little finicky because it didn't always sound consistent. Sometimes it wouldn't sound as good as other times.

    4. Reliability. There were several times when something would go out like a fuse or a tube and it would trigger other stuff to fail. So it was a pain figuring out what the issue was with soo many variables with using 3 different tubes. I learned that it was KEY to have back up supply of all the tubes and correct fuses on hand, so that when something did go out I could still have music.

After I sold the Rogue 90 I got my first Pass amp because they had a reputation for having a lot of the tube characteristics that I liked but without all the hassells. But I've come full circle because I just got some tube monos and I've decided to suck it up. The sonic gains out weigh the costs.
