trouble setting up surround system

I decided to upgrade my old surround system which was a real cheap setup. I bought a Denon 1802 receiver and rm6200 speakers with a 250 sub. I changed everything over from my old system but I can only get the two front speakers to work. The center channel and the rear speakers just sit there, not even a hum. I've checked and rechecked the connections but they seem ok. I plan to redo them all again tomorrow but I've spent several hours on them today with no luck. Any suggestions? The front speakers sound wonderful, I just hope I can get the others to work. I know I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what.
Thanks,
Donna

Check receiver setup..u have to set them to 'small'. if already setup..then check the connections from speaker to receiver. If that also ok..check if the receiver speaker options (most have A &B groups which play only front and center and all)..If that also ok..then check if your media (DVD, CD..etc) are 5.1..also check if your DSP options on ur receiver is on Dolby 5.1 for the rear speakers to play..

It sounds to me as if you have your reciever set to stereo. Put a DVD in, make sure you select the Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS soundtrack on the DVD. Next, make sure that you select the input as DVD and last make sure you have the receiver set to Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS. Not to worry, every time a friend calls me and tells me that they are only getting sound through the front channels, 99% of the time that is the problem.

The other thing I would check is to go through the setup menu on the receiver and maker sure that your center and rear speakers are set to small. I am fairly certain that ISN'T the problem though because Denon automatically sets them to small.

I would venture to guess that your connections are fine, you just are having problems with the receiver.

Please, Let us know how things turn out.

    Set-up, that was it!

Thanks folks that was all there was to it. Once I set my receiver correctly everything worked great!
