Upgrading to tsi300...yes or no???
I presently have an older onkoyo 5.1 receiver with speakers...HTIB and was wondering if the TSI 300's would be a good 1st step up (seeing as they in sale on Amazon for $100 a piece) along with a CS10 or 20 center...??? Please help!!!

We really don't know what your equipment is, so it is hard to answer. If you go with the TSI series, the CS 20 would be a better choice than the CS 10. These are 8 ohm speakers, so the first thing to do would be check to see if your AVR is rated at 8 ohms, sometimes the manufacturer throws some weird impedances in their HTIB systems, so it is best to double check.
Normally manufacturers skimp at the speakers in these systems, so usually this will be an upgrade. As I said, we could tell you more with a list of speakers and AVR model numbers you are currently running. -
Thanks for the reply. I will get as much as I can when I get home from work. Thank you!

Welcome to Club Polk!
Almost anything is an upgrade from a HTIB. That Onkyo is the equivalent of an entry level AVR that probably puts out 75-80 watts x 2 into 8 ohms (although Onkyo says otherwise) and maybe 50-60 watt x 5 channels. So yeah, it can probably drive some TSI-300s fine. You'll need to also get a CS20 center (get the larger center rather than the CS10), and later some TSI-100s for surrounds. Eventually you'll want to DITCH that Onkyo sub and get a "real" sub. If you're on a budget consider the older Polk PSW 505. And that should do you for now!
Have fun!

Cnh...thank-you for your input. I ordered the TSI300's and the CS20. WhAt are your thoughts about the "Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2 Receiver"???

The tsi300's at $100 each are a no brainer. You will be happy, trust me.
What are your room dimensions, listening preferences (% music vs. home theatre), budget? -
12x14. Lately I've been watching concerts AND listening to my iPhone so it's a toss up.

Budget...not a lot left!!!

Smart move ordering the C-20.

That 60X series is certainly a step up from the entry Onkyo. Probably the most popular model. It will have some more power and weight but we usually advise people to jump up one more step to the 70X series, if possible, because that has pre-outs, which boosts the "resale" value of your AVR and also allows you to add EXTRA amps in the future.
Also, I don't remember what version HDMI the 607 has. At this point you'd want to make sure you have at least version 1.4 for full Blu-ray and 3D compatibility. So I'd check that on the Onkyousa.com site.
Good stuff, otherwise. You'll be happy you got the larger center but your significant other might think it "too big"! You just have to make sure they understand that the CENTER carries about half the info on a surround DVD or Blu-ray disk!
