I just picked up a 60 gallon cube to get back into the hobby. At one time I had a 480g in wall with a whole room behind it it that included a 240g sump, a 4ft tall Volcano skimmer, a 1 HP chiller and 6x400w metal halides. That was at my ex-fiance's house. Fortunately, she was just as into it as I was so she kept everything when I moved out. We are still friends though so it's all good.

Sweet! I worked in car audio for roughly 23 years. Fun times, but boy that industry has changed.

Rodeks were very nice amps. The old Zapcos too. I liked a lot but usually settled between Linear Power and US Amps for competition rigs. Some of the better sounding to my ears were a very surprising choice; the original Cerwin Vega amps. I would never have thought I would like them before listening but they have that warm marantz type sound for me but with a lot better damping and detail. Memories.....

Just so you know those tweeters had a flaw that in 1986 Polk could not fix with 1986 technology.

In 2004 they spent 2 Million dollars to make new tweeters for speakers they haven't sold in 15 years!!!

$2 million? I didn't know this. Wonder if this was purely from a pride of design perspective, sort of like being a proud papa. Surely it wasn't motivated by profit.

Whatever the reason replacing the original tweets with the RD-0198's is a dramatic improvement.

Dude, it would seem that your HT system would feel neglegted. All that awesome 2 ch gear andd those little bitty bose double cubes ( I think) for the HT.

Ya, the room started with the HT and then my old KEFs came out of storage and the audio bug bit again after so many dormant years.

In all seriousness, sweet gear man. A lot of sweet gear. I imagine though that much of it interacts with others in the room to prevent any of it from sounding it's absolute best. I understand. I have a lot of different gear and it's hard to find places for a good bit of it.
No doubt, WAY too much stuff in the room for any of them to sound ideal, but the compromise sounds sweet and I enjoy the variety.

    Gentlemen,
I was happy to read of Bugstyvy's new speakers and your comments on upgrades
because I'm yet another convert about to take delivery of a pair of the earlier SDA SRS's.
I'm beginning to realize I should probably held out for the later models, however,
I'm willing to inve$t in a meaningful upgrade path from the start, so could you
point me in the right direction to get the ball rolling?
    Thanks,

Welcome to the forum and enjoy. The SRS's are great and very fun to listen to as well as mod. You may check your budget first. It can get very addictive.

Thank you F1nut and all you Polk elders,
for sharing your wisdom and experience with others less fortunate. I'd like to quote this message I shared 5 minutes ago on a completely different forum:

"I'm wonderfully ignorant and unversed in the audiophile faith, however, I am a good listener. As such my comments will probably be of little importance here, but I'm having a amazing time listening to the sounds and music I have collected over a life time of occassional collecting. My first "music player" was a wind up device with interchangeable needles, playing "78's and 45's. My new found enjoyment comes from coupling recently acquired and fully "modded" Polk SDA SRS speakers to existing sound sources. It is hard for me to to put into words how remarkable and revealing that exercise has been. My old pioneer receiver seems to perform like a champ and my B&O 9300 receiver sounds even better. LP's CD's and even Cassettes are giving the impression of live, three dimensional, on stage performance! Now, neither of these have remarkable specifications nor power to speak of, but it is remarkable how accomplished they sound coupled with these speakers.
So what can I expect from a "better" sound source? I can hardly wait to find out........ I have ordered a Parasound Halo A21 power amp., Halo P5 pre. amp. and an OPPO 105 multi disc player. At my ripe old age this will likely be my last equipment partnership, the grim reaper and father time have been talking so I'd better get back to my listening on my final journey. Hope you all have as much fun as I'm having right now!"

Thanks guys, and a special thanks to Trey at VR3.

You make me happy reading that you are having a blast enjoying your speakers. Had I known years earlier that they sounded so well, I would have bought them somehow.

Robinofsherwood - you are really going to like that Parasound A21 with the SRS's. I recently purchased the Halo equipment to power my SRS's and WOW what a change from my Pioneer SX-1250.
