Hello! I am new to this Forum and I dont know alot about home audio. I just bought a PWS10 sub. I have it connected to my soundbar from its sub out jack to the PSW10 using one cable to the left input jack of the sub. I have the auto-off feature of the sub turned on. Howerever when my soundbar and tv are turned off the sub stays on with a constant low hum. Is there somthing that I doing wrong? Thanks for your help. Mike in Indiana.

Try a decent cablefrom your source ie: tv, dvd player, etc, and from the sub to the bar), monoprice has them cheap, under 10 bucks, and as good as a monster or belkin in my opinion, probably better, the media bridge for sale on amazon arent bad cables, i have one and it fixed that problem on my psw110. Also, make sure its(and your soundbar) plugged into good quality grounded power protection. A little deoxit on the connections wouldnt hurt either, they have a 2 pack, with deoxit and deoxit gold, at radio shack for like 10-20 bucks, gold for new and gold plated connections, regular for older connections. A big step up from either of those two cables would be one of the higher end Ethereal digital coax or sub cables on accessories 4 less, just picked up 2, and the sub sounds way better than with the cheaper cords, i think i paid 35-40 each, they were originally listed around 199.2 Channel(work in progress):DAC: Schiit modi 2 uberAmp:Parasound 1200 MK IISub:RBH 1010-SEP Speakers: Monitor 5A peerlesscurrently running some krk rokit 3g since the HK pre outs died and i need to start breaking everything down to move in a couple monthsHeadphones:Source: tidalDAC: schiit modius epre: schiit sysAmp: AQ dragonfly black/ schiit magni2 Cans: Velodyne V-True, Grado SR225i, sennheiser x drop gaming headsetPC:DAC: schiit modius e(over spdif)pre: schiit sysspeakers: prenous eris 5 xtSub: Earthquake Sound MiniMe-P63most of my comments are passing on of info, im a noob, im just trying to help how i can, if im wrong or out of place to comment, dont hesitate to let me know "WITH WILLING HEARTS AND SKILLFUL HANDS, THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE, THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER, WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS. Hello 577,
Welcome to Polk's forum. It is possible that whatever is causing the hum is also preventing the sub from going into standby mode. Try removing the cable from the rear of the sub, wait about 15 minutes and see if the sub goes into standby.
Regards, Ken -
Thanks for the good info. I will give it a try and report back. 577

I agree, my guess is the "hum" is interference caused by a poor quality cable, or poor quality connection at some point in the signal stream. The sub sees the "hum" as a signal and thus stays on.

also, save up a few bucks and upgrade to a PSW 505, they can be had as low as 189 on amazon and newegg, and it three times the sub that little ten ever thought of being2 Channel(work in progress):DAC: Schiit modi 2 uberAmp:Parasound 1200 MK IISub:RBH 1010-SEP Speakers: Monitor 5A peerlesscurrently running some krk rokit 3g since the HK pre outs died and i need to start breaking everything down to move in a couple monthsHeadphones:Source: tidalDAC: schiit modius epre: schiit sysAmp: AQ dragonfly black/ schiit magni2 Cans: Velodyne V-True, Grado SR225i, sennheiser x drop gaming headsetPC:DAC: schiit modius e(over spdif)pre: schiit sysspeakers: prenous eris 5 xtSub: Earthquake Sound MiniMe-P63most of my comments are passing on of info, im a noob, im just trying to help how i can, if im wrong or out of place to comment, dont hesitate to let me know "WITH WILLING HEARTS AND SKILLFUL HANDS, THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE, THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER, WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS.
