When if ever will my ears stop ringing?

I don't blast my volume however I like the full effect of inhanced volume usalley listen at 1/3 level.
The first time I experienced this ringing in the ears was after a loud AC/DC concert a few year back I don't think my ears have ever recoperated.
The best I can discribe the ringing I experience is when everything around me is quite like when just going to sleep it's like a buzzing high pitched sound.
I've gotton smart over the years and stuff my ears w/ cotton( so I can hear w/out causing damage) at concerts, drag racing ect.

Stuffing your ears with cotton will not stop noise damage. I agree with gudnoyez, you should see a doctor. If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.
-
Think that's bad, wait until you start hearing the voices.
Cotton is useless for protection. You'd be better off with cigarette butts. Use real ear plugs.>

I recommend these ear plugs. They protect well, but don't block as much of the high frequencies:

This is actually quite COMMON and it is quite possible that many people here have tinnitus and don't even know it? There are many many causes, and it does not take much to cause some minor damage to your ears: loud concerts, listening to music too loud, mowing the lawn without protection, working in construction, and even a series of ear infections as a child (one too many and the antibiotics that treat them--things like aspirin aggravate such conditions). That said, I've had this problem since I was 10 and I've passed any number of hearing tests since then with "flying" colors, and hear better than most people my age! If the condition is not that serious you will and DO learn how to filter it out, the brain is a wondrous thing. I can only notice the sound if I really, really try to hear it when ALL is quiet. As far as I can tell it has very little effect on my ability to hear and to understand most everything.
If you find that the problem is persistent you should see a professional and see what they have to say. Otherwise, don't worry, you're not alone!

Probably won't improve your hearing, but, spellcheck will help you communicate a little better. Seeing the WHO at a festival in N.Y. in 1969 along with motorcycles/guns/chainsaws/etc. started my hearing damage early on. I hardly notice it these days and I always wear hearing protection around any loud sounds to prevent any further damage.

No bells or ringing for me, mine is more like the hissing of a summer lawn at night, w/insect sounds at a very low/muffled intensity.

I've heard that you can buy ear drops at walgreens or other pharmacies that can help alleviate tinnitus. I've read good reviews and thought about trying it myself. Its a daily thing putting in the drops but I equate that to putting in my contacts everyday. Not that much trouble when weighed against the results!AVR - Onkyo NR809

I carry a pair of Etymotic Research ER20 Musician's earplugs on my keychain at all times and use them liberally, any time I feel like I might need to raise my voice to talk. Hearing loss is cumulative and permanent. If you're experiencing a ringing in the ears after a loud event, that's a sure sign that you've suffered hearing loss.

Google tinnitus.
Yeppers, I have the same thing. I know they sell a pill, called "quiet...something", the full name escapes me at the moment. Non prescription too, suppose to help a great deal. Musicians I believe use the stuff too. I think I've just become so used to it that it really doesn't bother me. I have noticed when I drink alot of coffee it gets worse. I also use it to my advantage, "what did you say honey ?"HT SYSTEM-

none of those Tinnitus cures work... After working at an airport for over 25 years, i also am suffering consistent ringing. Not only that, my hearing response is down several dB at about 1-2kHz. I have a hard time hearing conversations and cannot enjoy music to my full enjoyment. Luckily, I only notice the ringing during quiet times, it could have been a lot worse.

Could be, but I don't think thats the one. Probably best to consult a doctor anyway and see what works on the open market or even prescription form.HT SYSTEM-

I have looked extensively into the pills claiming to cure tinnitus. They basically all stem from studies regarding tinnitus and magnesium. In a nutshell, the main ingredient you will find in these pills is magnesium. They will usually also include folic acid and perhaps ginkgo. So if you wanted, buy magnesium, folic acid and ginkgo supplements, and take them together and save a truckload of money over buying a pill with all three together being marketed as a "tinnitus cure." After I come home from a loud concert (where I was wearing earplugs) I take these supplements together, as a "just in case." FYI, magnesium will make you ****.
