First, it is Friday, so it is music and beer until dawn. Second, there was a package on the porch when I got home, and it has two SHM SACDs; Who's Next and Wheels Of Fire. Can't wait, but now I need to relax to some classical after the BS commute home on 101.

Yes. I hear that this Who SACD is supposed to sound great. Plus, I think it is out of print, at least that is what it says on the CDJAPAN web-site. So, it should become a collectors item.

Own both of those SHM-SACD's and they both sound spectacular. The Wheels Of Fire is definately better sounding than the 24Kt. gold DCC version of it. The Who's next is the best sounding version I've heard. Enjoy them!!

Edit: The 101 commute and bay area commute in general is definately not fun at all........Glad you are already to the enjoying the tunes point of the day.

Unless you're way out in the boonies, how do you enjoy loud music till the dawn? Must not be a city boy or apartment owner/renter...

The song 'Who Are You' is by far my fav on the SDA's. Never been so into a song before. Still yet to touch SACD though...

Time to go to bed. After one session I think the Cream SACD is better. I even liked some songs I hated when it first came out.

Wow, I thought you were exaggerating about staying up till dawn.

I agree that the Cream SHM-SACD sounds better, IMO.

For me with my gear, yes. I read this while listening to Cream, so I played The Who next, and then went back to Cream, which is playing now. Anyway, the Cream Wheels Of Fire SHM-SACD is definitely the better recording. It is more open, has a lower end, and a much cleaner overall sound. Who's Next has a lot more better songs, but the sound is compressed. It just seems squashed compared to Cream. While the Cream SACD has low-end tape hiss in the background, the Who SACD has high-end tape distortion where the recording engineer tried to get a little bit to much energy on the tape.

Another thing is the recording of Wheels Of Fire appears to be consistent song to song, while Who's Next is a bit more varied, with some songs sounding better, or worse, than other songs.

However, both SHM-SACDs are great. I am glad I bought them, and will start buying more of these SHMs. Who knows, I may am even start downloading high-res files.

Try playing Who's Next at a higher volume level, it really opens up then.

I agree. I think Wheels Of Fire is the better sounding of the 2 recordings on SHM-SACD. I will try listening to them both again as it's been a few months since hearing either one.

Yes. I love how some CDs open up the louder they are played. Also, it seems as if this mainly works with Classic Rock CDs. Anyway, in this case, the sound ratio is constant; Wheels Of Fire still sounds better for me.

I just got a cd player, nothing fancy, just a 10-12 year old sony 5 dvd changer, with digital coax, bought a good cable, and put deoxit on the dust covered coax connection that had never been touched, much better for lower volume listening than my pc. I have it loaded up with who's next, queen's greatest hits disc one, RHCP blood sugar sex magik, 107.7 The End, end sessions volume four( awesome live/live accoustic set from a local seattle station), and pearl jam vs. I hate that i left the remote sitting at home, so i have to get up to control it.

Jesse, I listened to "White Room" from Wheels of fire and "Behind Blue Eyes" from Who's Next, and came to the conclusion that I was wrong in my memory of which sounded better. Who's next is less dynamic, but has better transpanrency compared to Wheels Of Fire. Clarity on Who's Next is also better. Tonality of the recording is better on Wheels Of Fire is better however, IMO. Overall, Who's Next does sound better though.
