RTi28s

I picked up a set of F/Xi30s to use as side surrounds a while back and moved my RTi28s to height channel duty. However, the more I listen to it, the more I feel like the F/Xi30s aren't ideal for my 9.1 setup in either bipole or dipole mode. There's a precision to the placement that I'm just not getting (though it certainly doesn't sound bad at all), and I was thinking it might be worth finding another set of RTi28s and try having 6 of them as my surrounds and heights.

If anyone has a line on a black pair of RTi28s, let me know.
Equipment list:

Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights

Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

Still looking for a pair of black RTi28s if anyone knows of any. I don't really want to mix-and-match speaker lines, 'cause if I buy something newer, I know I'll end up slowly replacing every speaker because of it.

Keep an eye out for the RTi38 as well.. That's a great sounding bookshelf speaker. Prob would fit better as Heights as they have the same size drivers as the 70s.

Had mine for 10 years. Trying to upgrade soon though.. just seriously itching for something new even though these sound pretty damn nice.. just wondering how much nicer it can get with some new LSIMs?

The 38s won't quite fit where I have to mount them on the sides (mounted above a door on one side and an opening into the foyer on the other)... and the 28s I have as heights/rears are already screwed onto B-tech mounts so they can be angled down. They match up pretty well with the 70s up front.

The problem I have is that the sound from the right FXi30 somehow seems to reflect down the hall and back through the kitchen. Thinking dipole/bipole just won't work out with my room. If I found some 28s, I'm pretty sure I would sell the FXi30s.

Seems like the newer RTiA1 is a near perfect match other then being a whole 3" deeper. States “Match with RTi/RTiA out of wall -or- TCi/RT in wall/ceiling speakers”

Yeah, I've been looking at that... but I really want to keep it the same family all the way around, ideally. So much so that I would probably trade a pair of RTiA1s for some 28s!

(In other words, if I put RTiA1s up there, I'll start gradually changing them ALL to RTiA1s... then buy new towers... then a new center... and no good can come of that.)

Yeah, saw that too... except when you look deeper, the guy's description says, "This is a set of RT15I desktop speakers!!!!!"

Besides, if I got cherry and liked it, I would want to replace them all with cherry... and then I'm in the same full-system upgrade boat I'm trying to avoid. Heh...

Thanks, but those are not from the same family. I absolutely LOATHED the sound of the tri-laminate tweeters. Need the RTi28s to have a truly matched set.

Yeah... even if I could fit 38s above the doorways, it looks like the pegs have been ripped out of the back of one of them. My search continues.

Those pegs screw in. I recently removed mine on the pair to hang them on wall backets. Polk might still have a pair of rubber pegs if needed. Though theres a pretty good scratch on one side.

I know those pegs screw in, but look at the pics. The wood is pulled out. One of the tweeters has been pushed in. Between that and all the scratches, I just don't think those have been taken care of very well. But again, thanks for the heads up!

Good luck on your search. I love my 28's. I was stunned the first time that I heard them. Sorry, mine aren't for sale. Keep looking, they are worth it.
