To hell with it!
Dim Bulb Tester.
Test any component before plugging it into a wall socket.
It will tell you QUICK if there is a problem with the component before sending damaging current to the transformer.
Super cheap insurance, and down right mandatory for vintage equipment.
Lower 48 states only.
Pick a number between 1 and 150 and the closest (above or below wins).
I will have another member draw the number.
In the event of a tie, closest number the tie breaking number wins.
I will explain how it works when you win it!
All members are welcome.
I'll pay shipping.

I sea that someone...a very zitful person, stole my hot number so I will be forced to take number 74, and thank you very much. Now the primary purpose for this is to test for dim bulbs? In a pinch could it be used to test for a DIM WITT?:redface:Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

Nice karma, bub ;-)
I am not in but this is an excellent acquisition for a "vintage hardware" buff (especially one starting out); a "poor man's Variac".
Here are a coupla primers on the design use of such a gizmo.
http://antiqueradio.org/dimbulb.htm
http://www.ppinyot.com/dimbulb/dim_bulb_tester.htm
Note that a small array of bulbs of different wattages (i.e., of different filament reistances) will allow one to use the dim-bulb tester as a "poor man's Variac" to not only limit current but bring the device under test up to full line voltage step by step rather than slamming those decades-old filter capacitors with 120VAC at turn on :-)
N.B. Stock up on incandescent bulbs while you can!
Pepster, hope you don't mind the thread-jack! -
