So if somebody has one for sale at $350, but no longer has the box, you will pay $150 more for the 103 and a cardboard box?

No. At 350 I don't need the box. In fact, I don't need the box at all. Forget the box.

The 103 has HDMI inputs and supports 4k.

Our job here is to get you to spend more money. For $99 more you get:

2 year warranty vs 1 year warranty with 93.
4k resolution for your new VT50 ( future proof)
HDMI inputs (not available on the 93)
    Brand new smell ( priceless)

I would take this route over a used 93. I have had the Oppo 93 for a few years now, and the drive is now getting noisey. With some disks it makes quite a racket.

Whoa! Somebody at Amazon screwed up. They have new Oppo 93 for $1200, and used for $600. I think I will sell my 93, buy a new 103, and have $100 left over.
