rear speakers for the new media room.

I want to build a new 5.1 in a new home. I'm stuck trying to decide if I should use in wall, in ceiling, or corner mounted speakers for my rear speakers.. I'm not sure if in wall/ceiling speakers are the way to go because I have never used them. The room is 18/15 and the back wall is a open archway into the bar/game room. I added a floor plan and the room is in the basement and is labeled the family room. I plan on using the current 3.1. I was thinking about martin Logan in wall/ceiling speakers from audio advisor.
Recommendations and comments appreciated.

Any help or recommendations would be great! I have in-ceiling speakers in my living room and I don't care for them. Just doesn't seem natural to me with the sound coming from the ceiling. For surround duty in an HT it might be a different story, but I use mine for nothing more than background music...and I don't do that very often.
I would think in-wall would be a different story since they can be placed in what I would consider more optimal locations.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
Thanks for some feedback. I was thinking that it would be better to have in wall speakers rather than in ceiling.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

There are some nice inwalls that swivel the cones for optimum placement. What kind of brands of inwall are you considering?

I am open minded. I would like something that is similar sounding to my tyler acoustics taylo 7s and dynaudio audience speakers. They are both very revealing speakers that are not on the bright side. I was considering the martin logan passage in wall speakers. I am still not sure if in ceiling speakers would give off the correct sound for surround. I know in wall and wall mounted would offer nice surround effects. I want the best setup for movies, tv, and sports.

I had a Martin Logan Encore with that same tweeter and I have to say it blended better than the cheap $15 tweeter thats in my ML stage center. I found that tweeter to be really mellow and not at all forward and does not impose on the room. Another one but slightly more forward is the folded motion tweeter but that is better for movies and the atf would be best for music

Thanks for the comments on martin logan. I am also considering using the dynaudio towers I have for rear speakers. I could place them on some sort of stands to raise them to the correct position. They would probably be the best fit since they match my center channel. But they would also demand a new amp to power them. My pioneer elite would struggle. I could buy a nice three channel for them and the center. One problem is they would not look appealing in the room. I would prefer in wall or in ceiling.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

I would not go for in wall/ceiling. I like to see the whole speaker and not just the front face. besides, it is easier also to change the cable or any other thing.. just my to cents

I am also considering a speaker like this

Here are a nice set that I could put in the rear corners!

I would go with the di/bi pole on wall option myself."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Is your new home already built? I did my family/theater room in my basement about 5 years ago, trying desperately to future proof it. 5 years later there are some claring omisions, though I thought I did the best with the info I had at the time. I went 5.1, rears in the ceiling, but now I have a 7.1 set up. I made the side surrounds work and it's okay, but I could have done a better job of intigrating them had I known...another thing for me is power, I'm to the point where I may add an amp to my AVR, but I'm going to have to run a dedicated 20 amp service for it now. I have the electrical panel space, and at least I have a drop ceiling I can remove, but...wish I'd thought of it 5 years ago. I did insulate all walls and the ceiling, that has paid dividends. Oh, and a CAT 5 cable, may run that when I do the 20 amp plug. Anyway, I'd look at future proofing as much as you can now to save a lot of hassles later. There are lots of great ideas from the guys on here, good luck with your room!

It is being built now. Basement has not started yet. Just got under roof. I was thinking about 7.1 vs 5.1. Definitely running cat5 and all walls including ceiling will be drywall.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

I decided to go with Polk 265-ls for sides and Polk 700-ls for rears in the 7.1. Everywhere I read said Polk was the best in wall/ceiling speakers. Plus they blend well. Anyone have any experience with them?Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.
