This is not the TL version, only upgraded to SL2500 not SL3000:D

Here's the easy link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3064273503&category=14993&rd=1Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanx for supplying the correct link F1.
Actually olanen, it is the TL version. And it is upgraded to the
SL-3000. I removed the polymer deflector when I made the upgrade because having it there generated a 6dB frequency spike at about 3.5kHz. Not very pleasant, to say the least. Removing the deflector solved the anomaly.

Ok, you upgraded to SL3000 fine, how about the x'overs? Also Polk put that Wing deflector with purpose for the standing waves:D

Agree Olanen... in removing the baffle dj may have just been attempting to compensate for the x-over mismatch...More later,
Tour...

Olanen,
I believe Tour nailed it. The crossovers were not replaced. I believe that there was an efficiency differential between the two tweeter designs, which gave the 3000 a slight edge in efficiency. I don't have the exact numbers now, but I did at the time I was doing the transfer. From memory, I want to say that there was at least a 1dB difference in overall efficiency between the two drivers, which resulted in more energy flow to the 3000 upon installation. As well, there may have also been impedance variances tied to specific frequency ranges, that I was unable to test for, which contributed to the problem. End result was more energy output from the driver, and more sound arriving at the listening position. Fortunately, by removing the deflector, which I assume was acting as a 3.5 kHZ springboard, I eliminated the beaming in this range associated with the adjustment. A simple solution to what I surmised to be a very complex problem given the design params. I'm not quite sure what I would have done had this simple fix not worked. As I'm sure you know the designs of this line of speakers are fairly complex, so finding a pre-made crossover to compensate would have been next to impossible. I more than likely would have had to design, and build, one myself. Way too much work for what started out as a simple DIY project. Hope this helps clarify.

Actually, the xover can be easily upgraded to TL specs. We had another forum member who performed the SL3000 and xover upgrades to his RTA 11's. The whole thing is posted in here if you care to do a search.Political Correctness'.........defined

Now you tell me ;D. I really could have used this info a few years ago. Thanx F1 for the headsup, I'll check it out (for curiosity's sake if for nothing else).
