New to the Club

I am new to the Club. All began from last year, I bought a pair of SDA 1C at local Goodwill. The 1C was in perfect condition with the interconnect cable ($300). What a difference! I have B&W DM14, McIntosh XR16, Norman Labs model 28... The 1C liked fresh air. After reading more about SDA speakers, I located a pair of SRS on eBay. I drove 7 hours round trip and got them home. WOW! Real oak caps and trims. Condition is 9.5 out of 10. I oiled the oak, cleaned the grille... It is like new. It has blade/blade IC cable. The sound is so much clear than the 1C, like seating in the front row and dead center. (The 1C went to my bed room.) I am running the SRS with a Rotel RX1050 as preamp, B&K reference 4420 amp (200 W/C). Rotel HDCD player and Rega P2 turn table. I will post some pictures later. I also have Marantz CD 63 and 67. Denon DCD 1560 CD players and ADS P4 turn table. I also tried my Adcom 565 preamp with two 535II amps, and the sound is great! But, I like to have a volume remote in my hand.

Nice equipment. You might want to check out the DIY Mods, Tweaks section. As good as your SDA's sound now, you can take them up several levels.

Welcome to Club Polk. You have come to THE place for all things Audio, and your vintage SDA's. They are still some of the best speakers around, with a few modifications they can be brought back to new or even better than new performance.
Keep your wallet and your c.c.'s under tight wraps, they can take a beating around here if you don't watch it:biggrin: -
Hello and welcome to Club Polk, VintageSounds. Pull up a chair and feel free to join in on the discussions.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

They are the SDA SRS with 8 Mid-Woofers, 4 SL2000 Silver Coil Dome Tweeters and one 15" Fluid-coupled subwoofer. It has the blade/blade IC cable. They should be the 2nd or 3rd generation of SRS. I tried to upload some photos. It does not work. -

Forgot to add. Since you sit right behind the back wall, you might want to check my post on this thread (post#7) http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?144811-Listening-Room-Recommendations. Makes a big difference.

Thank you! I found the B&W DM14 gives more exciting performance on Rachmaninov Symphony No. 1 (Concertgebouw Orchestra/ Ashkenazy - LONDON 411657-2). The bass is like a cannon hit my house at 4:56 on track one. It is unbelievable for a set of small speakers. Got to keep them a bit longer. For the SRS, I enjoyed the most is Carman McRae / The Great American Songbook (Atlantic Jazz 2904-2), recorded live at Donte's, LA in 1972. The SRS take me back in time and in front of the great singer. I have the SRS for only two weeks. I am still exploring...
