Projector Questions and Concerns

It is my understanding that there are sort of two types of projectors. One designed for the home theater people who have bat cave, light controlled rooms, black walls, carpet, etc. Those projectors aren't built to overpower ambient light. They are designed for theater like environments.Don't quite understand what you mean by an "entertainment" vs "theater" projector.
The "entertainment" projectors are designed to be a little brighter, be put in a family room environment that have to compete with some ambient light and lighter colored walls. Sure I have a light controlled room that can be pitch black if I want it but I think a lot of my viewing will be done with some lights on. Watching football with some friends, for example. I don't want to have to sit around in the dark with a bunch of buddies in order to see a decent picture. with a brighter projector I can get a less washed out image with some lights on. That is why I'm leaning towards the panasonic. It can be REALLY bright if I want it to (ambient light situations) but I can throw it in eco mode for movies in the dark and it will actually be less bright (lumen output) than the BenQ that I had. So I like the versatility it seems to have. That and it won't have rainbows!

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to own the JVC but I can't get myself to spend that much.polkfarmboy wrote: »My jvc looks brighter due to the high contrast and can only be beaten during the day
Not with all the other expenses that come with finishing my basement. I need a new subwoofer too. Too many toys to buy. Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15 -
If you are in a basement then I would certainly go for the JVC at that price range. The second best would be the Epson units. I have the newer 4K JVC 4810/X55 and it is amazing. I've owned three JVC projectors and they are worth every penny. I usually tell people to go with the Epsons because they offer excellent PQ for the money. If you want the best picture for a great price I would also second the 8350. You start talking motorized lens shift you will be spending 2K+ just nature of the beast.
This is a freaking sweet deal. Epson 5010 refurb with 2yr warranty

I picked up the 8350 refurbed direct from Epson last month. Worth every penny. I can't spend what a JVC costs, even though I appreciate the quality it brings. I know I'll get superior blacks with a JVC unit. For now the price/performance ratio wins for the 8350 since it still has lens shift and great PQ.
Once I find a way to score a JVC unit I will move the 8350 upstairs to the Stewart Firehawk G3 92" that I picked up on Craigslist two weeks ago.Main Surround -

Ohh, nice screen! I prefer 100"+, but depending on the room, 92 might be fine. I'm guessing you bought it for a steal. I think those run over well over $1k new.
