I keep seeing import CD's released in Japan.. with better song compilations than you can get in the US. Why do big record companies like Sony release these? Then import them back into the US at a higher cost to the US market consumers? What gives?
Are those gold Japanese import CD's any good?
I was looking at one from Billy Joel.. it is an import from Sony Music... gold disc.

db,
For vinyl, the answer was almost always, "yes" for a very long time (but now starting to change).
For CD's, the answer is yes and no, just like CD's from anywhere else. I have a couple Japanese, a couple German and a few British.
Have also shopped amazon.co.uk. Have found some releases there that are "not available" in the US. Also found a couple that were actually cheaper despite the outrageous exchange rate and international shipping (about $3.50 for media, but takes a couple weeks).More later,
Tour...

I have found that for the most part the Japanese, German and Dutch issues to be better. I don't believe it's Sony that's importing them back, just some folks who know they can make some money.
BTW, if you run across anything from JVC XRCD that says Hong Kong issue, buy it.Political Correctness'.........defined

Have wanted to buy an XRCD for some time now, and if I were a jazz man or fond of Japanese performers, I would. Bet they sound awesome, too bad.

The JVC XRCD Hong Kong issues have Dire Straits/Brothers In Arms and The Eagles/Hell Freezes Over plus a couple of other non-jazz/Japanese performers. Another fantastic regular XRCD issue (if you like the blues) is Robert Lucas/Luke And The Locomotives, it's one of the best recordings I've heard, period.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks, I'll have a look around for the Dire Straits album.
