Sure seems like a great price. Granted, they're open box, but they're cheaper than prices I see for TSi 200s, RTiA 1s & 3s.

Might be an odd mix with the deftech as a center, but I love the clarity of dialog of the deftech and I think I'll try it and see how it works. Occasionally - well, frequently - I like to listen to music in the theater room, and I prefer the LSis over the deftechs for music.

Picked up a pair in black, too enticing not too jump on. Now I just have to worry about powering them. I have a pioneer SC-05 and an Adcom GFA-5400 and don't think either one of them will work. Any thoughts on a budget amp to power the 7's?

Measurements indicate the 7s aren't as difficult to run as the bigger LSis. Appears to be roughly a 6 ohm speaker. I'm going to use my Yamaha Aventage 820 AVR and see what happens. I can't imagine an Adcom gfa-5400 would have any problems whatsoever.

Unless you have a huge room the Adcom GFA-5400 will be more than enough. I used a GFA-545 for a while with the lsi7s and it was more than enough power.

Thanks for the replies. I have a few options for the LSI's, just need to decide what I want to do with them. I could run the GFA-5400 through the pre-outs of the SC-05 in the HT as kind of a hybrid system or set up a completely separate 2-channel system. Decisions...

Also - I'm not to well read on the nominal impedance topic...would it matter if I crossed over the LSi's off at 80 hz and had a sub handle the low frequencies? Would that make them easier to drive?

It will help some; one of the areas with the worst combination of impedance and phase angle is around 50 Hz with the other right above 100 Hz (http://www.stereophile.com/content/polk-audio-lsi7-loudspeaker-measurements).

The GFA-5400, though, is plenty capable with more difficult loads than the LSi7s.

Absolutely, I have a GFA-545 that has more than enough power for them and a NAD 214 at only 80 watts x 2 that manhandles them. Even the previous NAD C325bee integrated at 50 watts x 2 had NO problem making the LSi-7s sing and sing LOUD--never ran out of power!

Hi, I also snagged one of those open box LSi7's and also have a Pioneer SC-05. While I realize 4ohms may not be it's sweet spot, the SC-05 is rated 4-16ohm so I'm hopeful to drive them as FL & FR in my current 5.1 setup replacing two of the satellites in my Polk RM7600 (4XRM4300, 1XPSW650) setup. Before I pressed 'buy' I found an good SC-05 test/review that used 4 ohm speakers. http://www.hometheater.com/content/pioneer-elite-sc-05-av-receiver-measurements I don't think the 8ohm RM4300's draw much power so think I should be ok and I will report back when they arrive. My question to the group is whether I may get in trouble by taking the two replaced RM4300's and setting up in 7.1 mode? Will I need an adcom or similar to drive either the 5.1 or 7.1 setups and keep THD low? I saw another post somewhere that suggested setting the crossover for these to 80hz to avoid some trouble with the SC-05.

Does anyone have experience with Definitive Technology StudioMonitor 350? How are they compare to lsi7? Newegg has them on sale for $179 pair. Would like to set up a cheap non lsi 2 ch for music only in a small room. I got lucky scored a pair lsi7 cherry new from CL for $160.

I have the SM55s for my front three. Best home theater speakers I've had. Not my cup of tea for tunes, however. The Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 is the best music speaker I've heard in that price range. I'm anxious to hear the LSi7 and how it compares.

So, i currently have a NAD 7600 (150 wpc x 2, 500 wpc tone burst) receiver... Will i be ok with these 7s if i keep the volume down? Silly question, i guess, as i am powering my rtia1's with it right now.

Update: Received mine today in perfect condition. They came double-boxed, with not a mark on them. Nice deal. Good to have some Polks again. Playing fine with the Yamaha Aventage 820 in 6 ohm mode. Running cool. Will have an Adcom 5400 in a couple days for added confidence.

Also received mine today in perfect condition. Sound awesome and seem to be playing fine with Pioneer Elite SC-05 so I'll hold off on the amp upgrade for now. Seems to need a couple more clicks up on volume to my normal listening level but still lots of room left. That could also just be my wanting to hear these louder cause they sound so good! I used the receiver's Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration system (MCACC) to blend them in properly. Very pleased!

Good to hear. I expected these to have a few imperfections at that price, but I was pleasantly surprised. These are keepers.

Got my speakers today - same as you guys, absolutely perfect condition. Very impressed, nice packing job and not an imperfection on them. Have them running on the SC-05 right now and they sound terrific. If anything, they might be missing a little bit on the lower end but I am listening to it through Apple TV without high res files. Still sounds pretty incredible - I am going to do some more listening tomorrow with the GFA-5400 in the mix and with CD's. Love my SDA's, but can't say I'm not digging this new sound.

Any setup recommendations for the 7's? How far apart and how far from side and back wall? I'm used to my SDA's and this is a far different animal. My listening position is about 12 feet away from the speakers. Thanks in advance.

Unlike SDAs, and although they're mirror imaged, I don't think there are any special instructions for positioning. I assume the rough 'triangle' theory works. Toe in and out until it sounds right. Move away from walls if boomy, move closer to walls if not bassy enough, etc.

I'll updated my findings once the adcom - 200w at 4 ohms - gets into the mix. But so far so good. I wanted a bit more 'musical' speaker than the deftechs and I feel I got them. Bit of an odd home theater mix with LSis and the SM55, but I'm going to roll with it. The SM55 makes for a fantastic center with its clarity of dialog and dynamics. I'm not opposed to mixing and matching to suit my whimsy.

I got mine yesterday as well. I like them fairly well but might need to add a sub after getting used to the low end grunt of my rti10's

Right, they don't do deep bass. But I actually like their bass as it's not boomy or over-ambitious, at least not in my room. Nice, snappy little speaker.

Both have fantastic detail retrieval for their cost. DTs are more dynamic. LSis smoother tweeter. Both good for home theater, but DTs better because of dynamics and exciting top end. LSis better for music, in my opinion, because of smoother top end and more laid back presentation. The DTs have to be a contender for best home theater speaker in their price class. LSis more of a hyrbrid speaker, to my mind; very good at both but not dominant at either. I receive the adcom amp today or tomorrow, and perhaps that changes things somewhat. Make no mistake, the LSi7s for $299 are a spectacular deal. Oh, and I prefer the cosmetics of the LSi to the SM55. LSis are very sharp dressers.

I must say, they seem to be sounding alot better after about 10 hours.
