Looking to upgrade my Cary SLP98 preamp stock tubes (EH 6sn7). The EH 6sn7 sounds a bit edgy for my taste.

Do you guys think the price is good?

Thanks!

I put a pair of these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-USED-RCA-JAN-CRC-5692-BLACK-PLATE-MILITARY-TUBE-BEST-OF-THE-6SN7-TUBES-/330863475639?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item4d08fffbb7) that I picked up NOS from a local collector and have no desire to change until their toast! I paid 150$ and unfortunately that was the only pair he had. He has since liquidated on epay!

Treasure CV-191, QUIET, open and transparent without being harsh. This is my favorite treasure tube so far. All the NOS 6SN7s sound pretty good but noisy in my Wright WLA12 preamp.

+1 for the RCA VT231 (6SN7) gray glass for a nice warm sound.

I tried the RCA VT231 last night but they are a but too warm for my cary slp 98. Any recommendation for other 6sn7, beside the Treasure CV-181, that are more neutral and transparent ? Thanks.

I put a some NOS Telefunkens in my amps. Very quite, open, warm, detailed, etc. In fact, I'd say they're dead silent as input stage tubes. I bought them based on a review of 6SN7s I found that rated them the top 6SN7 in all categories. Not sure if the Treasures where included in that though.

I have a pair of Black Treasures that I bought from Grant Fidelity for my Rogue 99 super magnum, but they dont fit under the lid (bottle is too tall) So I can sell them to you if interested for $125 shipped. They are premium tubes and come in the premium boxed case.

They are a great, transparent, warm sounding tube. I had a pair in the same Wright wla 12a pre as THSMITH and they are worth the coin.

    Hi Brian,
Just about all the old 6SN7 I tried are warmer sounding than current offerings. I tried some old Tung Sol that were pretty neutral. The EH is the most neutral one for me so far but it does have a bit of an edge on some systems. The standard Shuguang metal base might be worth a try (cheap too). It's slightly warmer than EH but it's much smoother without the edge.

Sorry, made a mistake. The Shuguang are regular base (maybe red, I think). I had the visuals mixed up with some Russian military 6SN7.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Give them about 25-50hrs break in. Keep in mind though that they are slightly warmer than EH.
