Hi everyone,

Please would you assist me.

I would like to find out whether an onkyo 515 would have sufficient power to run a 5.1 polk RTIA speaker set.

I don't wish to get the most loudness out of the speakers but rather excellent clarity (I live in a townhouse)

Thank you

Which RTI A's are you trying to drive. Really big difference between an A5 and A9.

    Thank you for your reply

I am deciding between the A5s and the A7s, the A9s are above my needs (and budget).

I was thinking of pairing these up with Csi A4, Rti A1 & eventually a polk sub.

How much is the TX-NR515 going to run you and where are you getting it from?

I just though I would ask because you can get a TX-NR709 or NR717 from www.accessories4less.com for around $439 and $499. They are a factory referbished units. You can add on a 5 year warrenty if you like. The Onkyo TX-NR7xx is the big step up from the lower end Onkyo's. Mainly because it has Analog pre outs. So you can add an external amplifer later on down the road. You cant with the lower ones because they dont have the connections to do so.

Here is the link for AVR's at accessories 4 less
    http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/AVReceiver/Home-Audio/Home-Theater-Receivers/1.html

If you get an avr with pre outs then you could do the A7's now. Then later on down the road if you get the upgrade felling you could look for an external power amplifier. I havent had my sub on in a while. I live in an appartment and the A7's do good on the low end for appartment living.

Thanks for the tip jb. Unfortunately I live in South Africa so can't look into the refurb units ;) The 717 sounds like a better bet but the jump in price from 515 to 717 over here blows my budget completely.

But to confirm, it sounds as if the 515 will be ok running A5s or A7s but if I wanted to run A9s I would need a bigger receiver/external power amp?

Yea the 515 would run A5's no problem. The A7's would be ok at lower volumes but they need power to make them really shine at louder volumes.
